Pernod Ricard Revises Sales Forecast Amidst Global Challenges

French beverage leader Pernod Ricard has adjusted its sales projections for the fiscal year 2025, attributing the revised outlook to global economic uncertainties and unfavorable currency fluctuations. Euronews reported that the company experienced a 4% decline in organic net sales during the first half of the fiscal year, amounting to EUR6,176 million, largely due to underperformance in China and adverse currency impacts from the Turkish lira, Argentinian peso, and Nigerian naira.

Despite these challenges, Pernod Ricard saw encouraging results in emerging and mature markets, partially offsetting slower growth in China. The company's net profit share fell by 24% to EUR1.19 billion, with free cash flow at EUR440 million. The revised forecast now expects a slight decline in organic net sales for the year ending June 30, 2025, diverging from previous growth expectations. However, the company remains confident in sustaining its operating margin.

Pernod Ricard's global sales faced mixed outcomes; the Americas saw a 4% contraction in sales, driven by a 7% decrease in the US, though Canada and Brazil posted increases due to renewed consumer demand. In India, a 6% sales boost was noted, thanks to robust performances from the Jameson, Glenlivet, Ballantine's, and other key brands. However, the Chinese market recorded a significant 25% drop, negatively affecting the overall Asian performance. Brands like Royal Salute and Martell experienced substantial declines, while Absolut, Jameson, and Olmeca fared better. The softer Chinese yuan and reduced gifting trends further impacted sales.

Meanwhile, Vietnam and Japan showed promising growth, whereas Taiwan faced growth hurdles. Sales in Turkey significantly surged, propelled by Ballantine's and Chivas, while the South African market grew slightly.
