In 2023, imports of crude soybean oil into Poland expanded significantly to 229K tons, with an increase of 6.6% on the year before. In general, imports continue to indicate a buoyant expansion. Imports by Country
In 2023, Ukraine (216K tons) was the main crude soybean oil supplier to Poland, accounting for a 94% share of total imports. It was followed by Hungary (5.7K tons), with a 2.5% share of total imports. The third position in this ranking was taken by the Netherlands (3.8K tons), with a 1.7% share.
From 2013 to 2023, the average annual growth rate of volume from Ukraine stood at +18.7%. The remaining supplying countries recorded the following average annual rates of imports growth: Hungary (+44.0% per year) and the Netherlands (-5.1% per year).
In value terms, Ukraine ($197M) constituted the largest supplier of crude soybean oil to Poland, comprising 93% of total imports. The second position in the ranking was taken by Hungary ($7M), with a 3.3% share of total imports. It was followed by the Netherlands, with a 2.1% share.
From 2013 to 2023, the average annual growth rate of value from Ukraine stood at +18.2%. The remaining supplying countries recorded the following average annual rates of imports growth: Hungary (+52.4% per year) and the Netherlands (-3.7% per year).
Import Prices by Country
In 2023, the crude soybean oil price stood at $929 per ton (CIF, Poland), falling by -30.8% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the import price saw a relatively flat trend pattern. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2021 an increase of 59%. Over the period under review, average import prices attained the maximum at $1,343 per ton in 2022, and then reduced remarkably in the following year.
Average prices varied somewhat amongst the major supplying countries. In 2023, amid the top importers, the highest price was recorded for prices from Hungary ($1,224 per ton) and the Netherlands ($1,169 per ton), while the price for Ukraine ($915 per ton) and Germany ($1,121 per ton) were amongst the lowest.
From 2013 to 2023, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Hungary (+5.8%), while the prices for the other major suppliers experienced mixed trend patterns.
