Poland's Export of Plastic Sanitary Ware Soars to $264 Million in 2024

Poland Plastic Sanitary Ware Exports

In 2024, overseas shipments of plastic baths, wash-basins, lavatory pans and covers and similar sanitary ware decreased by -29% to 10M units, falling for the fourth year in a row after two years of growth. Overall, exports, however, saw a moderate expansion. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2016 when exports increased by 71% against the previous year. The exports peaked at 17M units in 2020; however, from 2021 to 2024, the exports stood at a somewhat lower figure.

In value terms, plastic sanitary ware exports declined sharply to $186M (IndexBox estimates) in 2024. In general, exports, however, showed a prominent increase. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2016 when exports increased by 38%. Exports by Country

Germany (4.4M units) was the main destination for plastic sanitary ware exports from Poland, with a 30% share of total exports. Moreover, plastic sanitary ware exports to Germany exceeded the volume sent to the second major destination, Italy (1.8M units), threefold. France (1.2M units) ranked third in terms of total exports with an 8.4% share.

From 2014 to 2023, the average annual rate of growth in terms of volume to Germany totaled +15.5%. Exports to the other major destinations recorded the following average annual rates of exports growth: Italy (+11.1% per year) and France (-1.4% per year).

In value terms, Germany ($77M) remains the key foreign market for plastic baths, wash-basins, lavatory pans and covers and similar sanitary ware exports from Poland, comprising 29% of total exports. The second position in the ranking was taken by France ($19M), with a 7.2% share of total exports. It was followed by the Czech Republic, with a 6.8% share.

From 2014 to 2023, the average annual rate of growth in terms of value to Germany amounted to +11.7%. Exports to the other major destinations recorded the following average annual rates of exports growth: France (+7.3% per year) and the Czech Republic (+7.6% per year).

Exports by Type

Plastics bidets, lavatory pans and flushing cisterns (7.1M units) was the largest type of plastic baths, wash-basins, lavatory pans and covers and similar sanitary ware exported from Poland, accounting for a 68% share of total exports. Moreover, plastics bidets, lavatory pans and flushing cisterns exceeded the volume of the second product type, plastic lavatory seats and covers (2.4M units), threefold.

From 2014 to 2024, the average annual growth rate of the volume of plastics bidets, lavatory pans and flushing cisterns exports totaled +5.7%. With regard to the other exported products, the following average annual rates of growth were recorded: plastic lavatory seats and covers (+2.4% per year) and plastic baths, shower-baths, sinks and wash-basins (+1.9% per year).

In value terms, plastic baths, shower-baths, sinks and wash-basins ($99M), plastics bidets, lavatory pans and flushing cisterns ($71M) and plastic lavatory seats and covers ($16M) appeared to be the most exported types of plastic baths, wash-basins, lavatory pans and covers and similar sanitary ware from Poland worldwide.

Plastics bidets, lavatory pans and flushing cisterns, with a CAGR of +8.8%, saw the highest growth rate of the value of exports, among the main product categories over the period under review, while shipments for the other products experienced more modest paces of growth.

Export Prices by Country

In 2024, the plastic sanitary ware price amounted to $18 per unit (FOB, Poland), with an increase of 14% against the previous year. Overall, export price indicated a modest increase from 2014 to 2023: its price increased at an average annual rate of +1.3% over the last nine-year period. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2023 figures, plastic sanitary ware export price increased by +96.5% against 2017 indices. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2018 an increase of 30% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the average export prices attained the maximum in 2023 and is likely to see steady growth in the immediate term.

Prices varied noticeably by country of destination: amid the top suppliers, the country with the highest price was the UK ($56 per unit), while the average price for exports to Italy ($5.6 per unit) was amongst the lowest.

From 2014 to 2023, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was recorded for supplies to Russia (+9.5%), while the prices for the other major destinations experienced more modest paces of growth.
