Poland Refrigerator and Freezer Exports

In 2023, overseas shipments of refrigerators and freezers decreased by -4.2% to 3.4M units, falling for the second year in a row after four years of growth. The total export volume increased at an average annual rate of +2.0% over the period from 2013 to 2023; however, the trend pattern indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded in certain years. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2019 when exports increased by 13% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the exports reached the peak figure at 3.7M units in 2021; however, from 2022 to 2023, the exports stood at a somewhat lower figure.

In value terms, refrigerator and freezer exports rose markedly to $1.5B (IndexBox estimates) in 2023. Overall, total exports indicated tangible growth from 2013 to 2023: its value increased at an average annual rate of +4.9% over the last decade. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2023 figures, exports increased by +85.7% against 2016 indices. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2021 with an increase of 21% against the previous year. Exports by Country

Germany (747K units), France (386K units) and Italy (281K units) were the main destinations of refrigerator and freezer exports from Poland, together accounting for 41% of total exports.

From 2013 to 2023, the biggest increases were recorded for Germany (with a CAGR of +9.6%), while shipments for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

In value terms, Germany ($403M) remains the key foreign market for refrigerators and freezers exports from Poland, comprising 26% of total exports. The second position in the ranking was held by France ($160M), with a 10% share of total exports. It was followed by Italy, with an 8.1% share.

From 2013 to 2023, the average annual rate of growth in terms of value to Germany amounted to +14.6%. Exports to the other major destinations recorded the following average annual rates of exports growth: France (+2.2% per year) and Italy (+2.3% per year).

Exports by Type

Combined refrigerators-freezers (2.9M units) was the largest type of refrigerators and freezers exported from Poland, with a 84% share of total exports. Moreover, combined refrigerators-freezers exceeded the volume of the second product type, household refrigerators and freezers (not combined) (545K units), fivefold.

From 2013 to 2023, the average annual rate of growth in terms of the volume of combined refrigerators-freezers exports amounted to +3.7%.

In value terms, combined refrigerators-freezers ($1.3B) remains the largest type of refrigerators and freezers exported from Poland, comprising 86% of total exports. The second position in the ranking was taken by household refrigerators and freezers (not combined) ($212M), with a 14% share of total exports.

From 2013 to 2023, the average annual rate of growth in terms of the value of combined refrigerators-freezers exports amounted to +6.1%.

Export Prices by Country

In 2023, the refrigerator and freezer price stood at $447 per unit (FOB, Poland), rising by 11% against the previous year. Over the period from 2013 to 2023, it increased at an average annual rate of +2.8%. As a result, the export price attained the peak level and is likely to continue growth in the immediate term.

There were significant differences in the average prices for the major export markets. In 2023, amid the top suppliers, the country with the highest price was Germany ($539 per unit), while the average price for exports to Ukraine ($344 per unit) was amongst the lowest.

From 2013 to 2023, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was recorded for supplies to the Czech Republic (+5.4%), while the prices for the other major destinations experienced more modest paces of growth.
