The global polyacetals market revenue fell to $4.9B in 2023, with a decrease of -8.5% against the previous year. This figure reflects the total revenues of producers and importers (excluding logistics costs, retail marketing costs, and retailers' margins, which will be included in the final consumer price). The market value increased at an average annual rate of +1.9% from 2013 to 2023; the trend pattern indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. As a result, consumption attained the peak level of $5.4B, and then declined in the following year.

Consumption By Country

The countries with the highest volumes of consumption in 2023 were China (395K tons), the United States (210K tons) and India (174K tons), with a combined 42% share of global consumption. Germany, Japan, Pakistan, the UK, Turkey, Thailand, Mexico, South Korea, Italy and Vietnam lagged somewhat behind, together comprising a further 32%.

From 2013 to 2023, the biggest increases were recorded for Italy (with a CAGR of +51.1%), while consumption for the other global leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

In value terms, China ($803M), the United States ($628M) and India ($491M) were the countries with the highest levels of market value in 2023, with a combined 39% share of the global market. Germany, Japan, Pakistan, the UK, Mexico, Thailand, Turkey, Italy, Vietnam and South Korea lagged somewhat behind, together accounting for a further 34%.

Italy, with a CAGR of +52.0%, recorded the highest growth rate of market size in terms of the main consuming countries over the period under review, while market for the other global leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

In 2023, the highest levels of polyacetals per capita consumption was registered in Germany (1,729 kg per 1000 persons), followed by Japan (833 kg per 1000 persons), the UK (703 kg per 1000 persons) and South Korea (650 kg per 1000 persons), while the world average per capita consumption of polyacetals was estimated at 234 kg per 1000 persons.

Global polyacetals production dropped to 1.8M tons in 2023, waning by -6.7% on the year before. The total output volume increased at an average annual rate of +2.4% over the period from 2013 to 2023; however, the trend pattern indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded in certain years. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2020 when the production volume increased by 13%. Global production peaked at 2M tons in 2022, and then reduced in the following year.

In value terms, polyacetals production contracted to $4.6B in 2023 estimated in export price. The total output value increased at an average annual rate of +2.7% over the period from 2013 to 2023; however, the trend pattern indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2022 with an increase of 17% against the previous year. As a result, production attained the peak level of $5.1B, and then declined in the following year.

Production By Country

The countries with the highest volumes of production in 2023 were the United States (295K tons), Germany (231K tons) and South Korea (230K tons), together comprising 41% of global production. Malaysia, Japan, India, the Netherlands, Thailand, Pakistan, China, Taiwan (Chinese) and the UK lagged somewhat behind, together accounting for a further 46%.

From 2013 to 2023, the most notable rate of growth in terms of production, amongst the leading producing countries, was attained by the Netherlands (with a CAGR of +21.9%), while production for the other global leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

Imports

World Imports of Polyacetals In Primary Forms

After three years of growth, supplies from abroad of polyacetals in primary forms decreased by -10% to 1.2M tons in 2023. In general, total imports indicated a temperate expansion from 2013 to 2023: its volume increased at an average annual rate of +3.8% over the last decade. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2021 when imports increased by 17%. Over the period under review, global imports attained the maximum at 1.3M tons in 2022, and then shrank in the following year.

In value terms, polyacetals imports reduced sharply to $2.9B in 2023. Over the period under review, total imports indicated moderate growth from 2013 to 2023: its value increased at an average annual rate of +4.2% over the last decade. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2021 with an increase of 36%. Over the period under review, global imports attained the maximum at $3.5B in 2022, and then fell rapidly in the following year.

Imports By Country

China was the key importer of polyacetals in primary forms in the world, with the volume of imports finishing at 352K tons, which was approx. 30% of total imports in 2023. Belgium (98K tons) held the second position in the ranking, followed by India (64K tons) and Germany (61K tons). All these countries together held near 19% share of total imports. The Netherlands (41K tons), Mexico (37K tons), Japan (37K tons), Italy (33K tons), Vietnam (32K tons), the United States (30K tons), Brazil (28K tons), Turkey (27K tons) and France (25K tons) followed a long way behind the leaders.

Imports into China increased at an average annual rate of +3.8% from 2013 to 2023. At the same time, Belgium (+24.6%), the Netherlands (+20.4%), Vietnam (+14.1%), India (+9.4%), Japan (+7.0%), Turkey (+7.0%), Mexico (+3.8%), Brazil (+2.6%), the United States (+2.5%) and Germany (+1.3%) displayed positive paces of growth. Moreover, Belgium emerged as the fastest-growing importer imported in the world, with a CAGR of +24.6% from 2013-2023. Italy and France experienced a relatively flat trend pattern. Belgium (+7.1 p.p.), Italy (+2.9 p.p.), the Netherlands (+2.8 p.p.), India (+2.2 p.p.) and Vietnam (+1.7 p.p.) significantly strengthened its position in terms of the global imports, while the shares of the other countries remained relatively stable throughout the analyzed period.

In value terms, China ($714M) constitutes the largest market for imported polyacetals in primary forms worldwide, comprising 24% of global imports. The second position in the ranking was held by Belgium ($279M), with a 9.5% share of global imports. It was followed by Germany, with a 6% share.

From 2013 to 2023, the average annual growth rate of value in China amounted to +3.2%. The remaining importing countries recorded the following average annual rates of imports growth: Belgium (+25.2% per year) and Germany (+1.9% per year).

Import Prices By Country

In 2023, the average polyacetals import price amounted to $2,535 per ton, reducing by -7.4% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the import price, however, saw a relatively flat trend pattern. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2022 when the average import price increased by 19% against the previous year. As a result, import price reached the peak level of $2,738 per ton, and then fell in the following year.

Prices varied noticeably by country of destination: amid the top importers, the country with the highest price was Mexico ($3,794 per ton), while the Netherlands ($1,840 per ton) was amongst the lowest.

From 2013 to 2023, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Italy (+5.6%), while the other global leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

Exports

World Exports of Polyacetals In Primary Forms

In 2023, after three years of growth, there was significant decline in overseas shipments of polyacetals in primary forms, when their volume decreased by -15.2% to 1.1M tons. In general, total exports indicated strong growth from 2013 to 2023: its volume increased at an average annual rate of +5.3% over the last decade. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2016 with an increase of 30% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the global exports attained the peak figure at 1.3M tons in 2022, and then reduced dramatically in the following year.

In value terms, polyacetals exports dropped markedly to $2.8B in 2023. Over the period under review, exports, however, continue to indicate a remarkable increase. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2021 with an increase of 34%. The global exports peaked at $3.3B in 2022, and then dropped dramatically in the following year.

Exports By Country

South Korea (207K tons), Germany (149K tons), the Netherlands (129K tons), Malaysia (126K tons), the United States (115K tons), Belgium (90K tons), Taiwan (Chinese) (67K tons), Thailand (64K tons), Japan (52K tons) and China (37K tons) represented roughly 93% of total exports in 2023.

From 2013 to 2023, the most notable rate of growth in terms of shipments, amongst the main exporting countries, was attained by the Netherlands (with a CAGR of +27.3%), while the other global leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

In value terms, the largest polyacetals supplying countries worldwide were South Korea ($435M), Germany ($423M) and the United States ($362M), with a combined 44% share of global exports. Belgium, the Netherlands, Malaysia, Taiwan (Chinese), Japan, Thailand and China lagged somewhat behind, together comprising a further 48%.

In terms of the main exporting countries, the Netherlands, with a CAGR of +27.6%, recorded the highest rates of growth with regard to the value of exports, over the period under review, while shipments for the other global leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

Export Prices By Country

The average polyacetals export price stood at $2,503 per ton in 2023, almost unchanged from the previous year. Over the last decade, it increased at an average annual rate of +1.3%. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2021 an increase of 14% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the average export prices attained the peak figure at $2,521 per ton in 2022, and then declined in the following year.

There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major exporting countries. In 2023, amid the top suppliers, the country with the highest price was Belgium ($3,837 per ton), while Malaysia ($1,578 per ton) was amongst the lowest.

From 2013 to 2023, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by South Korea (+2.2%), while the other global leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.
