China (1.6M tons) remains the largest potato starch producing country worldwide, accounting for 20% of total volume. Moreover, potato starch production in China exceeded the figures recorded by the second-largest producer, India (660K tons), twofold. Germany (393K tons) ranked third in terms of total production with a 4.7% share.

Germany (242K tons), Denmark (242K tons) and the Netherlands (165K tons) represented roughly 67% of total exports in 2024. Poland (78K tons) held the next position in the ranking, followed by France (48K tons) and Belgium (46K tons). All these countries together took near 18% share of total exports. Austria (34K tons) followed a long way behind the leaders.
From 2013 to 2024, the most notable rate of growth in terms of shipments, amongst the leading exporting countries, was attained by the Netherlands (with a CAGR of +19.3%), while the other global leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.
In value terms, Germany ($254M), Denmark ($237M) and the Netherlands ($176M) constituted the countries with the highest levels of exports in 2024, together comprising 68% of global exports.
Among the main exporting countries, the Netherlands, with a CAGR of +20.5%, saw the highest growth rate of the value of exports, over the period under review, while shipments for the other global leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.
Export Prices By Country
In 2024, the average potato starch export price amounted to $1,008 per ton, declining by -7.7% against the previous year. Overall, export price indicated a buoyant expansion from 2013 to 2024: its price increased at an average annual rate of +5.3% over the last eleven years.
