U.S. Poultry Export Price per Ton July 2022
In July 2022, the poultry price per ton stood at $1,544 (FOB, US), remaining constant against the previous month. Over the period from January 2022 to July 2022, it increased at an average monthly rate of +2.2%. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in June 2022 when the average export price increased by 16% against the previous month. As a result, the export price reached the peak level of $1,561 per ton, and then fell modestly in the following month.
Prices varied noticeably by the country of destination: the country with the highest price was Canada ($3,704 per ton), while the average price for exports to Congo ($1,103 per ton) was amongst the lowest.
From January 2022 to July 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was recorded for supplies to Canada (+5.6%), while the prices for the other major destinations experienced more modest paces of growth.
U.S. Poultry Export Prices by Type
Prices varied noticeably by the product type; the product with the highest price was duck and goose meat ($5,431 per ton), while the average price for exports of chicken meat ($1,474 per ton) was amongst the lowest.
From January 2022 to July 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was recorded for the following types: duck and goose meat (+11.2%), while the prices for the other products experienced more modest paces of growth.
U.S. Poultry Exports
In July 2022, exports of poultry from the United States dropped to 300K tons, reducing by -8.2% on the previous month's figure. Over the period under review, exports, however, recorded a relatively flat trend pattern. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in May 2022 with an increase of 14% month-to-month. As a result, the exports reached the peak of 352K tons. From June 2022 to July 2022, the growth of the exports failed to regain momentum.
In value terms, poultry exports shrank to $464M (IndexBox estimates) in July 2022. The total export value increased at an average monthly rate of +2.5% over the period from January 2022 to July 2022; the trend pattern remained relatively stable, with only minor fluctuations being recorded in certain months. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in May 2022 with an increase of 12% against the previous month. Over the period under review, the exports hit record highs at $511M in June 2022, and then contracted in the following month.
U.S. Poultry Exports by Type
Chicken meat (288K tons) was the largest type of poultry exported from the United States, with a 99.9% share of total exports. Moreover, chicken meat exceeded the volume of the second product type, turkey meat (12K tons), more than tenfold.
From January 2022 to July 2022, the average monthly rate of growth in terms of the volume of export of chicken meat was relatively modest. With regard to the other exported products, the following average monthly rates of growth were recorded: turkey meat (-0.5% per month) and duck and goose meat (-3.2% per month).
In value terms, chicken meat ($425M) remains the largest type of poultry exported from the United States, comprising 92% of total exports. The second position in the ranking was taken by turkey meat ($38M), with an 8.1% share of total exports.
From January 2022 to July 2022, the average monthly rate of growth in terms of the export volume of chicken meat totaled +2.8%. With regard to the other exported products, the following average monthly rates of growth were recorded: turkey meat (-0.5% per month) and duck and goose meat (+7.6% per month).
U.S. Poultry Exports by Country
Mexico (55K tons), China (51K tons) and Taiwan (Chinese) (21K tons) were the main destinations of poultry exports from the United States, together accounting for 43% of total exports. Cuba, the Philippines, Canada, Angola, Vietnam, Guatemala, Haiti, Congo, Colombia and Ghana lagged somewhat behind, together accounting for a further 35%.
From January 2022 to July 2022, the biggest increases were in Colombia (with a CAGR of +18.8%), while shipments for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.
In value terms, the largest markets for poultry exported from the United States were China ($90M), Mexico ($86M) and Canada ($44M), together comprising 47% of total exports. These countries were followed by Taiwan (Chinese), Cuba, the Philippines, Guatemala, Angola, Vietnam, Haiti, Colombia, Congo and Ghana, which together accounted for a further 31%.
In terms of the main countries of destination, Vietnam, with a CAGR of +21.0%, saw the highest rates of growth with regard to the value of exports, over the period under review, while shipments for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.
