U.S. Printing Ink Import Price per Ton in August 2022
In August 2022, the printing ink price per ton stood at $13.6K (CIF, US), increasing by 9.8% against the previous month. Over the last seven months, it increased at an average monthly rate of +1.2%. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in March 2022 an increase of 23% against the previous month. As a result, import price attained the peak level of $14.0K per ton. From April 2022 to August 2022, the average import prices remained at a lower figure.
There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major supplying countries. In August 2022, the country with the highest price was Israel ($31.2K per ton), while the price for India ($4.1K per ton) was amongst the lowest.
From January 2022 to August 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by the UK (+5.6%), while the prices for the other major suppliers experienced more modest paces of growth.
U.S. Printing Ink Import Prices by Type
Average prices varied noticeably amongst the major supplied products. In August 2022, the product with the highest price was black printing ink ($15.9K per ton), while the price for color printing ink totaled $13.1K per ton.
From January 2022 to August 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by color printing ink (+1.7%).
U.S. Printing Ink Imports
In August 2022, supplies from abroad of printing ink was finally on the rise to reach 4K tons for the first time since May 2022, thus ending a two-month declining trend. The total import volume increased at an average monthly rate of +2.0% over the period from January 2022 to August 2022; the trend pattern remained consistent, with somewhat noticeable fluctuations being recorded in certain months. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in March 2022 with an increase of 23% m-o-m.
In value terms, printing ink imports soared to $54M (IndexBox estimates) in August 2022. The total import value increased at an average monthly rate of +3.2% from January 2022 to August 2022; the trend pattern indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded in certain months. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in March 2022 when imports increased by 52% month-to-month. Imports peaked in August 2022.
U.S. Printing Ink Imports by Type
In August 2022, color printing ink (3.3K tons) constituted the largest type of printing ink supplied to the United States, with a 82% share of total imports. Moreover, color printing ink exceeded the figures recorded for the second-largest type, black printing ink (739 tons), fourfold.
From January 2022 to August 2022, the average monthly growth rate of the volume of import of color printing ink stood at +1.5%.
In value terms, color printing ink ($43M) constituted the largest type of printing ink supplied to the United States, comprising 78% of total imports. The second position in the ranking was held by black printing ink ($12M), with a 22% share of total imports.
U.S. Printing Ink Imports by Country
Canada (929 tons), India (578 tons) and Singapore (554 tons) were the main suppliers of printing ink imports to the United States, with a combined 52% share of total imports. Japan, Germany, Israel, the UK, South Korea, Italy, Spain and Switzerland lagged somewhat behind, together accounting for a further 38%.
From January 2022 to August 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of purchases, amongst the main suppliers, was attained by Italy (with a CAGR of +27.3%), while imports for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.
In value terms, the largest printing ink suppliers to the United States were Singapore ($12M), Israel ($8M) and the UK ($5.6M), together accounting for 47% of total imports. These countries were followed by Japan, Canada, Germany, India, Italy, Switzerland, South Korea and Spain, which together accounted for a further 39%.
In terms of the main suppliers, Italy, with a CAGR of +24.1%, recorded the highest growth rate of the value of imports, over the period under review, while purchases for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.
