Challenges and Market Dynamics

Indonesia, with a population of approximately 280 million, represents a lucrative target for e-commerce players worldwide. However, Bukalapak's retreat underscores the intense competition from major international rivals, including Shopee, TikTok, and Alibaba Group Holding Ltd.'s Lazada, which have steadily increased their presence following Bukalapak's groundbreaking IPO in 2021. As per IndexBox, the e-commerce market in Indonesia is projected to continue growing, driven by increasing internet penetration and smartphone usage.

Bukalapak's Performance and Strategic Shift

In the third quarter ending in September, Bukalapak experienced a 15% revenue decline.
