Qatar Aluminum Imports
In 2023, supplies from abroad of aluminum and alloys increased by 102% to 4K tons, rising for the second consecutive year after two years of decline. Overall, imports, however, showed a relatively flat trend pattern. Over the period under review, imports attained the maximum at 4.4K tons in 2013; however, from 2014 to 2023, imports failed to regain momentum.
In value terms, aluminum imports skyrocketed to $7.6M (IndexBox estimates) in 2023. Over the period under review, imports, however, recorded a slight decrease. Imports peaked at $8.7M in 2013; however, from 2014 to 2023, imports remained at a lower figure.

In 2023, South Korea (3.3K tons) constituted the largest aluminum supplier to Qatar, accounting for a 81% share of total imports. Moreover, aluminum imports from South Korea exceeded the figures recorded by the second-largest supplier, China (671 tons), fivefold. Spain (48 tons) ranked third in terms of total imports with a 1.2% share.

In 2023, the aluminum price stood at $1,895 per ton (CIF, Qatar), declining by -26.8% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the import price showed a relatively flat trend pattern. Over the period under review, average import prices attained the maximum at $3,269 per ton in 2018; however, from 2019 to 2023, import prices remained at a lower figure.
