Qatar Carrot And Turnip Imports
In 2023, supplies from abroad of carrots and turnips increased by 3.2% to 21K tons, rising for the second consecutive year after two years of decline. The total import volume increased at an average annual rate of +4.4% over the period from 2013 to 2023; however, the trend pattern indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded in certain years. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2019 with an increase of 17%. As a result, imports attained the peak of 21K tons. From 2020 to 2023, the growth of imports failed to regain momentum.
In value terms, carrot and turnip imports fell significantly to $15M (IndexBox estimates) in 2023. Over the period under review, imports showed a prominent increase. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2022 with an increase of 59%. As a result, imports attained the peak of $21M, and then shrank sharply in the following year.

Imports by Country
China (8.6K tons), Australia (7.5K tons) and Iran (2K tons) were the main suppliers of carrot and turnip imports to Qatar, with a combined 88% share of total imports.
From 2013 to 2023, the most notable rate of growth in terms of purchases, amongst the main suppliers, was attained by Iran (with a CAGR of +54.4%), while imports for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.
In value terms, the largest carrot and turnip suppliers to Qatar were Australia ($6.6M), China ($4.3M) and the Netherlands ($943K), together comprising 82% of total imports. Oman, Iran, South Africa, the United States and Saudi Arabia lagged somewhat behind, together accounting for a further 13%.
South Africa, with a CAGR of +42.3%, saw the highest growth rate of the value of imports, among the main suppliers over the period under review, while purchases for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.
Import Prices by Country
In 2023, the carrot and turnip price stood at $703 per ton (CIF, Qatar), falling by -32.7% against the previous year. In general, import price indicated modest growth from 2013 to 2023: its price increased at an average annual rate of +1.3% over the last decade. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2022 an increase of 44%. As a result, import price attained the peak level of $1,044 per ton, and then dropped sharply in the following year.
There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major supplying countries. In 2023, amid the top importers, the country with the highest price was Australia ($890 per ton), while the price for Iran ($218 per ton) was amongst the lowest.
From 2013 to 2023, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Australia (+0.5%), while the prices for the other major suppliers experienced mixed trend patterns.
