Qatar Cheese and Curd Imports
In 2023, imports of cheese and curd into Qatar contracted markedly to 10K tons, declining by -17.4% on the previous year. In general, imports saw a slight shrinkage. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2022 with an increase of 40%. Over the period under review, imports hit record highs at 16K tons in 2017; however, from 2018 to 2023, imports failed to regain momentum.
In value terms, cheese and curd imports contracted to $74M (IndexBox estimates) in 2023. The total import value increased at an average annual rate of +1.6% over the period from 2013 to 2023; however, the trend pattern indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2022 when imports increased by 47%. Imports by Country
In 2023, Denmark (1.9K tons) constituted the largest cheese and curd supplier to Qatar, with a 19% share of total imports. Moreover, cheese and curd imports from Denmark exceeded the figures recorded by the second-largest supplier, Italy (878 tons), twofold. Morocco (848 tons) ranked third in terms of total imports with an 8.4% share.
From 2013 to 2023, the average annual growth rate of volume from Denmark amounted to +7.9%. The remaining supplying countries recorded the following average annual rates of imports growth: Italy (+19.3% per year) and Morocco (+6.7% per year).

Unripened or uncured cheese (2.2K tons) ranked third in terms of total imports with a 21% share.
From 2013 to 2023, the average annual growth rate of the volume of processed cheese (excluding grated or powdered) imports stood at +2.0%. With regard to the other supplied products, the following average annual rates of growth were recorded: cheese, other than blue-veined, grated, powdered or processed (+1.7% per year) and unripened or uncured cheese (-1.9% per year).
In value terms, processed cheese (excluding grated or powdered) ($36M) constituted the largest type of cheese and curd supplied to Qatar, comprising 49% of total imports. The second position in the ranking was taken by unripened or uncured cheese ($17M), with a 23% share of total imports. It was followed by cheese, other than blue-veined, grated, powdered or processed, with a 22% share.
Import Prices by Country
In 2023, the cheese and curd price stood at $7,283 per ton (CIF, Qatar), rising by 13% against the previous year. Over the last decade, it increased at an average annual rate of +2.9%. As a result, import price attained the peak level and is likely to continue growth in the immediate term.
There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major supplying countries. In 2023, amid the top importers, the country with the highest price was France ($11,105 per ton), while the price for Austria ($4,252 per ton) was amongst the lowest.
From 2013 to 2023, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by India (+5.3%), while the prices for the other major suppliers experienced more modest paces of growth.
