Qatar Cheese Import Price in June 2023
In June 2023, the cheese price stood at $6,937 per ton (CIF, Qatar), which is down by -6.2% against the previous month. Over the period from June 2022 to June 2023, it increased at an average monthly rate of +1.0%. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in November 2022 an increase of 19% against the previous month. The import price peaked at $7,920 per ton in April 2023; however, from May 2023 to June 2023, import prices remained at a lower figure.
There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major supplying countries. In June 2023, the country with the highest price was Italy ($9,621 per ton), while the price for Germany ($4,043 per ton) was amongst the lowest.
From June 2022 to June 2023, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Austria (+2.6%), while the prices for the other major suppliers experienced more modest paces of growth.

Qatar Cheese Import Prices by Type
Prices varied noticeably by the product type; the product with the highest price was cheese, blue-veined (not grated, powdered or processed) ($11,378 per ton), while the price for cheese of all kinds, grated or powdered ($5,456 per ton) was amongst the lowest.
From June 2022 to June 2023, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by fresh cheese (unripened or uncured cheese), including whey cheese and curd (+1.7%), while the prices for the other products experienced more modest paces of growth.
Qatar Cheese Imports
In June 2023, approximately 701 tons of cheese were imported into Qatar; with a decrease of -25% against the previous month. In general, imports recorded a abrupt descent. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in May 2023 when imports increased by 64% against the previous month.
In value terms, cheese imports contracted sharply to $4.9M (IndexBox estimates) in June 2023. Overall, imports showed a pronounced setback. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in May 2023 with an increase of 53% month-to-month.
Qatar Cheese Imports by Type
Processed cheese (excluding grated or powdered) (309 tons), cheese, other than blue-veined, grated, powdered or processed (182 tons) and fresh cheese (unripened or uncured cheese), including whey cheese and curd (143 tons) were the main products of cheese imports to Qatar, with a combined 90% share of total imports. Cheese of all kinds, grated or powdered and cheese, blue-veined (not grated, powdered or processed) lagged somewhat behind, together comprising a further 9.6%.
From June 2022 to June 2023, the biggest increases were in cheese of all kinds, grated or powdered (with a CAGR of +2.7%), while purchases for the other products experienced mixed trend patterns.
In value terms, the most traded types of cheese in Qatar were processed cheese (excluding grated or powdered) ($2.2M), cheese, other than blue-veined, grated, powdered or processed ($1.2M) and fresh cheese (unripened or uncured cheese), including whey cheese and curd ($1.1M), with a combined 92% share of total imports. Cheese of all kinds, grated or powdered and cheese, blue-veined (not grated, powdered or processed) lagged somewhat behind, together accounting for a further 8%.
Qatar Cheese Imports by Country
Denmark (134 tons), Turkey (83 tons) and Italy (67 tons) were the main suppliers of cheese imports to Qatar, with a combined 40% share of total imports. These countries were followed by Poland, the United States, Spain, France, Morocco, Germany, Australia, New Zealand and Austria, which together accounted for a further 48%.
From June 2022 to June 2023, the biggest increases were in Spain (with a CAGR of +61.8%), while purchases for the other leaders experienced mixed trend patterns.
In value terms, Denmark ($1M), Italy ($640K) and Poland ($490K) constituted the largest cheese suppliers to Qatar, together accounting for 45% of total imports. the United States, France, Turkey, Morocco, Spain, Australia, New Zealand, Germany and Austria lagged somewhat behind, together accounting for a further 45%.
In terms of the main suppliers, Spain, with a CAGR of +36.3%, saw the highest rates of growth with regard to the value of imports, over the period under review, while purchases for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.
