Qatar Experiences Steep Increase in Roasted Coffee Imports, Reaching $29 Million in 2024

Qatar Roasted Coffee Imports

In 2024, the amount of roasted coffee imported into Qatar amounted to 1.8K tons, with an increase of 10% against the previous year's figure. In general, imports posted strong growth. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2022 with an increase of 46% against the previous year. As a result, imports attained the peak of 2K tons. From 2023 to 2024, the growth of imports remained at a lower figure.

In value terms, roasted coffee imports soared to $29M (IndexBox estimates) in 2024. Over the period under review, imports recorded a resilient expansion. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2022 with an increase of 45%. Imports by Country

Italy (531 tons), Lebanon (353 tons) and Singapore (177 tons) were the main suppliers of roasted coffee imports to Qatar, together accounting for 60% of total imports.

From 2014 to 2024, the most notable rate of growth in terms of purchases, amongst the main suppliers, was attained by Italy (with a CAGR of +17.5%), while imports for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

In value terms, Italy ($7.2M), Switzerland ($4.9M) and Lebanon ($3.7M) appeared to be the largest roasted coffee suppliers to Qatar, with a combined 55% share of total imports. Singapore, the UK, the Netherlands and the United States lagged somewhat behind, together accounting for a further 27%.

In terms of the main suppliers, Singapore, with a CAGR of +42.7%, recorded the highest rates of growth with regard to the value of imports, over the period under review, while purchases for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

Imports by Type

In 2024, roasted coffee (not decaffeinated) (1.7K tons) was the main type of roasted coffee supplied to Qatar, with a 96% share of total imports. Moreover, roasted coffee (not decaffeinated) exceeded the figures recorded for the second-largest type, roasted decaffeinated coffee (66 tons), more than tenfold.

From 2014 to 2024, the average annual growth rate of the volume of roasted coffee (not decaffeinated) imports amounted to +16.4%.

In value terms, roasted coffee (not decaffeinated) ($27M) constituted the largest type of roasted coffee supplied to Qatar, comprising 96% of total imports. The second position in the ranking was taken by roasted decaffeinated coffee ($1.3M), with a 4.4% share of total imports.

Import Prices by Country

In 2024, the roasted coffee price stood at $16,113 per ton (CIF, Qatar), picking up by 9.5% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the import price continues to indicate a relatively flat trend pattern. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2019 an increase of 17%. Over the period under review, average import prices hit record highs in 2024 and is likely to see gradual growth in the near future.

Prices varied noticeably by country of origin: amid the top importers, the country with the highest price was Switzerland ($44,248 per ton), while the price for Ethiopia ($4,177 per ton) was amongst the lowest.

From 2014 to 2024, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Singapore (+23.7%), while the prices for the other major suppliers experienced more modest paces of growth.
