Qatar Sees a Modest Decline in the Price of Virgin Olive Oil, Now at $4,374 per Ton.

Qatar Virgin Olive Oil Import Price in November 2022

In November 2022, the virgin olive oil price amounted to $4,374 per ton (CIF, Qatar), dropping by -5.8% against the previous month. Overall, the import price, however, recorded a relatively flat trend pattern. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in August 2022 an increase of 25% month-to-month. As a result, import price reached the peak level of $5,587 per ton. From September 2022 to November 2022, the average import prices failed to regain momentum.

There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major supplying countries. In November 2022, the country with the highest price was Greece ($14,404 per ton), while the price for Jordan ($1,809 per ton) was amongst the lowest.

From November 2021 to November 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Turkey (+14.0%), while the prices for the other major suppliers experienced more modest paces of growth.

Qatar Virgin Olive Oil Imports

In November 2022, imports of virgin olive oil into Qatar dropped to 131 tons, declining by -2.6% on the previous month's figure. Overall, imports continue to indicate a abrupt descent. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in February 2022 when imports increased by 82% m-o-m.

In value terms, virgin olive oil imports dropped to $573K (IndexBox estimates) in November 2022. In general, imports showed a abrupt curtailment. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in February 2022 with an increase of 78% month-to-month.

Qatar Virgin Olive Oil Imports by Country

Palestine (35 tons), Syrian Arab Republic (35 tons) and Spain (27 tons) were the main suppliers of virgin olive oil imports to Qatar, together accounting for 74% of total imports.

From November 2021 to November 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of purchases, amongst the main suppliers, was attained by Syrian Arab Republic (with a CAGR of +7.3%), while imports for the other leaders experienced mixed trend patterns.

In value terms, the largest virgin olive oil suppliers to Qatar were Palestine ($159K), Spain ($147K) and Syrian Arab Republic ($128K), with a combined 76% share of total imports.

Syrian Arab Republic, with a CAGR of +3.9%, recorded the highest rates of growth with regard to the value of imports, in terms of the main suppliers over the period under review, while purchases for the other leaders experienced mixed trend patterns.
