Qatar Wheat Bran Imports
Wheat bran imports into Qatar fell notably to 97K tons in 2023, shrinking by -40.5% on the year before. Over the period under review, imports, however, continue to indicate a remarkable increase. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2018 with an increase of 158%. As a result, imports reached the peak of 214K tons. From 2019 to 2023, the growth of imports remained at a somewhat lower figure.
In value terms, wheat bran imports fell rapidly to $30M (IndexBox estimates) in 2023. Overall, imports, however, continue to indicate a remarkable increase. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2018 with an increase of 327% against the previous year. As a result, imports reached the peak of $90M. From 2019 to 2023, the growth of imports remained at a somewhat lower figure.

Imports by Country
Tanzania (33K tons), Pakistan (24K tons) and Kenya (13K tons) were the main suppliers of wheat bran imports to Qatar, together comprising 73% of total imports. Romania, Uganda, Rwanda, Oman and the United Arab Emirates lagged somewhat behind, together accounting for a further 27%.
From 2013 to 2023, the most notable rate of growth in terms of purchases, amongst the main suppliers, was attained by Rwanda (with a CAGR of +115.1%), while imports for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.
In value terms, Tanzania ($9.3M), Pakistan ($8.1M) and Romania ($4.6M) constituted the largest wheat bran suppliers to Qatar, together comprising 73% of total imports. Kenya, Uganda, Rwanda, Oman and the United Arab Emirates lagged somewhat behind, together accounting for a further 27%.
In terms of the main suppliers, Rwanda, with a CAGR of +114.1%, recorded the highest rates of growth with regard to the value of imports, over the period under review, while purchases for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.
Import Prices by Country
In 2023, the wheat bran price stood at $308 per ton (CIF, Qatar), almost unchanged from the previous year. In general, import price indicated a mild increase from 2013 to 2023: its price increased at an average annual rate of +1.1% over the last decade. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2023 figures, wheat bran import price increased by +54.1% against 2020 indices. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2018 an increase of 66% against the previous year. As a result, import price attained the peak level of $419 per ton. From 2019 to 2023, the average import prices remained at a somewhat lower figure.
Average prices varied somewhat amongst the major supplying countries. In 2023, amid the top importers, the highest price was recorded for prices from Romania ($356 per ton) and Pakistan ($335 per ton), while the price for Uganda ($275 per ton) and Tanzania ($280 per ton) were amongst the lowest.
From 2013 to 2023, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Ukraine (+39.8%), while the prices for the other major suppliers experienced more modest paces of growth.
