The total consumption volume increased at an average annual rate of +2.2% over the period from 2013 to 2024; however, the trend pattern indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded in certain years. Global consumption peaked at 537K tons in 2022; however, from 2023 to 2024, consumption stood at a somewhat lower figure.

The global raspberry and blackberry market size totaled $3.5B in 2024, stabilizing at the previous year. This figure reflects the total revenues of producers and importers (excluding logistics costs, retail marketing costs, and retailers' margins, which will be included in the final consumer price). The market value increased at an average annual rate of +4.6% over the period from 2013 to 2024; however, the trend pattern indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded in certain years. Over the period under review, the global market attained the peak level at $3.6B in 2020; however, from 2021 to 2024, consumption remained at a lower figure.

The United States (174K tons) constituted the country with the largest volume of raspberry and blackberry consumption, accounting for 39% of total volume. Moreover, raspberry and blackberry consumption in the United States exceeded the figures recorded by the second-largest consumer, Canada (44K tons), fourfold. The third position in this ranking was taken by Spain (34K tons), with a 7.8% share.

In value terms, the United States ($1.5B) led the market, alone. The second position in the ranking was held by Canada ($368M). It was followed by the UK.

From 2013 to 2024, the average annual growth rate of value in the United States stood at +16.9%. The remaining consuming countries recorded the following average annual rates of market growth: Canada (+3.0% per year) and the UK (+9.3% per year).

The countries with the highest levels of raspberry and blackberry per capita consumption in 2024 were Canada (1,130 kg per 1000 persons), Spain (730 kg per 1000 persons) and the United States (514 kg per 1000 persons).

From 2013 to 2024, the biggest increases were recorded for Saudi Arabia (with a CAGR of +21.9%), while consumption for the other global leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

Production

World Production of Raspberries and Blackberries

In 2024, approx. 323K tons of raspberries and blackberries were produced worldwide; remaining relatively unchanged against the previous year's figure. Overall, production, however, showed a relatively flat trend pattern. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2021 with an increase of 2.5%. As a result, production reached the peak volume of 324K tons. From 2022 to 2024, global production growth remained at a lower figure. The general positive trend in terms output was largely conditioned by a relatively flat trend pattern of the harvested area and a relatively flat trend pattern in yield figures.

In value terms, raspberry and blackberry production dropped modestly to $2B in 2024 estimated in export price. In general, production, however, saw a relatively flat trend pattern. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2015 when the production volume increased by 14% against the previous year. Over the period under review, global production attained the peak level at $2.3B in 2018; however, from 2019 to 2024, production stood at a somewhat lower figure.

Production By Country

The countries with the highest volumes of production in 2024 were Mexico (121K tons), Morocco (65K tons) and Spain (46K tons), with a combined 72% share of global production. Portugal, Poland, Serbia and Guatemala lagged somewhat behind, together comprising a further 21%.

From 2013 to 2024, the most notable rate of growth in terms of production, amongst the key producing countries, was attained by Guatemala (with a CAGR of +1.3%), while production for the other global leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

Imports

World Imports of Raspberries and Blackberries

In 2024, purchases abroad of raspberries and blackberries decreased by -7.1% to 474K tons, falling for the second year in a row after ten years of growth. Overall, imports, however, posted a remarkable increase. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2022 when imports increased by 24%. As a result, imports attained the peak of 608K tons. From 2023 to 2024, the growth of global imports remained at a somewhat lower figure.

In value terms, raspberry and blackberry imports shrank modestly to $4.2B in 2024. Over the period under review, imports, however, saw buoyant growth. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2014 when imports increased by 22% against the previous year. Over the period under review, global imports hit record highs at $4.2B in 2023, and then contracted in the following year.

Imports By Country

The United States was the major importer of raspberries and blackberries in the world, with the volume of imports resulting at 219K tons, which was near 46% of total imports in 2024. It was distantly followed by Spain (46K tons), Canada (45K tons), the UK (34K tons), Germany (25K tons) and France (22K tons), together mixing up a 36% share of total imports. The Netherlands (16K tons) and Austria (7.2K tons) held a little share of total imports.

From 2013 to 2024, average annual rates of growth with regard to raspberry and blackberry imports into the United States stood at +8.4%. At the same time, Spain (+28.7%), France (+8.5%), the UK (+7.8%), the Netherlands (+7.3%), Germany (+1.8%) and Canada (+1.6%) displayed positive paces of growth. Moreover, Spain emerged as the fastest-growing importer imported in the world, with a CAGR of +28.7% from 2013-2024. Austria experienced a relatively flat trend pattern. Spain (+8.4 p.p.) and the United States (+5 p.p.) significantly strengthened its position in terms of the global imports, while Austria, Germany and Canada saw its share reduced by -1.9%, -4.1% and -7.8% from 2013 to 2024, respectively. The shares of the other countries remained relatively stable throughout the analyzed period.

In value terms, the United States ($2B) constitutes the largest market for imported raspberries and blackberries worldwide, comprising 47% of global imports. The second position in the ranking was taken by Canada ($388M), with a 9.3% share of global imports. It was followed by the UK, with an 8% share.

In the United States, raspberry and blackberry imports expanded at an average annual rate of +14.2% over the period from 2013-2024. The remaining importing countries recorded the following average annual rates of imports growth: Canada (+3.7% per year) and the UK (+9.5% per year).

Import Prices By Country

The average raspberry and blackberry import price stood at $8,821 per ton in 2024, surging by 6.8% against the previous year. Over the last eleven years, it increased at an average annual rate of +3.3%. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2023 an increase of 25% against the previous year. Over the period under review, average import prices attained the peak figure in 2024 and is likely to see steady growth in the near future.

Average prices varied somewhat amongst the major importing countries. In 2024, major importing countries recorded the following prices: in Germany ($10,152 per ton) and the UK ($9,722 per ton), while Spain ($7,149 per ton) and France ($7,760 per ton) were amongst the lowest.

From 2013 to 2024, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Austria (+10.2%), while the other global leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

Exports

World Exports of Raspberries and Blackberries

In 2024, overseas shipments of raspberries and blackberries decreased by -4.8% to 355K tons, falling for the second year in a row after two years of growth. Over the period under review, exports, however, saw a remarkable increase. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2014 with an increase of 24%. Over the period under review, the global exports hit record highs at 394K tons in 2022; however, from 2023 to 2024, the exports remained at a lower figure.

In value terms, raspberry and blackberry exports totaled $2.7B in 2024. Overall, exports, however, enjoyed a resilient increase. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2014 with an increase of 20%. Over the period under review, the global exports hit record highs in 2024 and are expected to retain growth in years to come.

Exports By Country

In 2024, Mexico (104K tons), distantly followed by Morocco (63K tons), Spain (58K tons), the United States (45K tons) and Portugal (34K tons) represented the major exporters of raspberries and blackberries, together achieving 86% of total exports. The following exporters - the Netherlands (14K tons) and France (6.6K tons) - together made up 5.7% of total exports.

From 2013 to 2024, the biggest increases were recorded for Morocco (with a CAGR of +28.5%), while shipments for the other global leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

In value terms, the largest raspberry and blackberry supplying countries worldwide were Mexico ($592M), Spain ($558M) and Morocco ($486M), together accounting for 60% of global exports.

Morocco, with a CAGR of +36.4%, saw the highest growth rate of the value of exports, among the main exporting countries over the period under review, while shipments for the other global leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

Export Prices By Country

The average raspberry and blackberry export price stood at $7,699 per ton in 2024, increasing by 7.1% against the previous year. Over the period from 2013 to 2024, it increased at an average annual rate of +2.7%. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2015 when the average export price increased by 24% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the average export prices hit record highs at $7,888 per ton in 2018; however, from 2019 to 2024, the export prices failed to regain momentum.

There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major exporting countries. In 2024, amid the top suppliers, the country with the highest price was the Netherlands ($11,926 per ton), while Mexico ($5,687 per ton) was amongst the lowest.
