Rigetti Computing CEO Cautions on Stock Surge and Growth Expectations

Rigetti Computing's stock experienced a significant surge, leading its CEO, Subodh Kulkarni, to caution investors about the time needed to achieve sustainable growth. Yahoo Finance reported Kulkarni's insights shared on the Opening Bid podcast, emphasizing the importance of adjusting expectations amidst the buzz in the quantum computing sector.

Kulkarni highlighted that despite recent highs, Rigetti Computing remains focused on technology development rather than immediate sales growth. "We have to get the technology perfected before we can start seeing real material differences in sales," he explained.

The recent rally in Rigetti's stock, which rose by 48% in a single day, coincides with momentum in quantum computing stocks like D-Wave Quantum and Quantum Computing, which saw significant gains as well. Despite stock market excitement, company profitability remains a challenge; Rigetti reported a $45 million net loss through last year's third quarter. Moreover, financial projections indicate potential cash needs by mid-2026 for its chipmaking goals.

However, Kulkarni remained optimistic, countering assumptions about the immediate need for additional capital, asserting, "as of today, we don't need to raise more money for the foreseeable future." He projected that the company might achieve cash flow break-even in three to five years, given the successful maturation of sales opportunities primarily through government contracts.

Wall Street continues its bullish stance on the sector, with analysts like B. Riley's Craig Ellis expressing confidence in quantum computing's potential to revolutionize high-value workloads.
