Riyadh Positioned to Become MENA's Musical Hub by 2030

Saudi Arabia's capital city, Riyadh, is rapidly evolving into the central hub for the music industry in the Middle East and North Africa (MENA), projecting a transformation by 2030. Read more.

The announcement was made by Panos Panay, President of the Recording Academy, at DeepFest 2025, the world's leading artificial intelligence conference, spotlighting Saudi Arabia's burgeoning music scene.

Panay highlighted the nation's significant strides in music investment, citing initiatives like Riyadh Music Week and the impressive rise of MDLBEAST, a Saudi-based entertainment giant. "In this massive explosion of the music scene, I'm certain that Riyadh will be the epicenter of the entire region in five years," Panay remarked, comparing the city to Los Angeles's influence on the global music stage.

The Recording Academy, recognizing the potential of MENA's rich musical heritage, aims to foster global recognition for artists in the region, similar to the success achieved by the Latin Grammys. With over 400 million Arabic speakers, Panay foresees the imminent rise of Arabic stars to international fame, akin to the phenomenon of K-pop.

In the backdrop of technological advancements, AI and streaming platforms play a crucial role in amplifying artists' reach. Panay emphasized, "With 400,000 new songs uploaded daily to Spotify, technology is an undeniable enabler for artists to connect with global audiences."

The four-day DeepFest event, co-located with the global tech conference LEAP, features insights from more than 150 speakers, over 120 exhibitors, and a turnout of more than 50,000 participants worldwide. The second day's sessions delved into AI's transformative effects on life and society.

Lambert Hogenhout of the United Nations underscored AI's potential to bolster human creativity and drive entrepreneurship. Highlighting AI's everyday applications, he likened its transformative power to that of smartphones, encouraging widespread AI adoption to avoid obsolescence.

Dr. Yaser Al Onaizan, CEO of the Saudi Data and Artificial Intelligence Authority, emphasized the tangible applications of AI, asserting its role should ideally function unnoticed, allowing humans to take a creative forefront.

With two more days of DeepFest left, attendees anticipate discussions on quantum computing, women's pivotal roles in tech, and AI's revolutionary impact on healthcare, as outlined by Annabelle Mander of Tahaluf.
