RTX Corp to Expand Workforce in India Amid Aerospace Growth

U.S. aerospace and defense giant RTX Corp has announced plans to expand its workforce in India by adding 1,000 new employees by 2027, a move confirmed by the company's top executives during discussions with Reuters. This expansion will significantly add to RTX's current 7,000-strong workforce in the country, underscoring India's importance as a global talent hub.

Among the new roles, approximately 300 engineers will be hired for aircraft engine maker Pratt & Whitney over the next 12-18 months. Simultaneously, around 700 positions will open at the aerospace supplier Collins Aerospace over the next three years, further solidifying India's role in RTX's global operations.

According to a recent report by IT industry body Nasscom and consulting firm Zinnov, the market size of India's Global Capability Centres (GCCs) is set to grow from $64.6 billion in fiscal 2024 to between $99 billion and $105 billion by fiscal 2030. These centres play a crucial role in facilitating daily operations and research and development for global aerospace and defense companies like RTX, Airbus, Rolls-Royce Holdings, and Lockheed Martin, among others.

Savyasachi Srinivas, Vice President of Engineering at Collins Aerospace, emphasized that India is not regarded merely as a low-cost destination but as a critical talent hub for RTX. The company plans to consolidate three manufacturing sites and operate from a larger facility in Bengaluru by 2026 to enhance production capabilities.

Furthermore, Jayant Mukherjee, head of the Asia-Pacific and India Digital Capability Center at Pratt & Whitney, noted that the Bengaluru-based centre aims to minimize its reliance on outsourcing firms and perform more technology development in-house, reaching 55% in-house technology work in three years, up from a third currently. This move reflects a broader trend of enhancing intellectual property protection and talent retention within the industry.
