Snap Inc. Unveils $700 Million Junk Bond Offering to Repurchase Convertible Debt

Snap Inc., the parent company of Snapchat, has announced plans to issue $700 million in junk bonds to address its existing convertible debt, as reported by Yahoo Finance. The company aims to sell new senior notes, due to mature in 2033, in a private offering. This initiative is primarily intended to repurchase convertible notes due between this year and 2028, as shares are trading significantly below the conversion price, currently closing at $10.92 compared to the $21 to $23 conversion range.

According to IndexBox data, the competitive landscape for social media companies remains intense, with Snap facing formidable rivals such as Meta Platforms Inc. The offering, being overseen by financial giants JPMorgan Chase & Co. and Goldman Sachs Group Inc., comes at a time when there is a surge in bond issuances by companies with similar credit ratings.

Despite carrying a B1 and BB rating from Moody's and Fitch respectively, Snap is optimistic about the bond offering, which is expected to be set at a yield in the low-7% range. This marks Snap's first direct bond offering amidst heightened regulatory challenges, fluctuations in advertising income, and the advent of new technological trends.
