Snow Lake Energy Discovers Gallium in Ontario, Boosting Shares

Snow Lake Energy (NASDAQ: LITM) announced a groundbreaking discovery of gallium at its Mound Lake property in Ontario, significantly enhancing its existing portfolio of lithium and uranium assets. The announcement led to a surge in the company's shares, which rose by over 30% to $0.89 apiece on Nasdaq, giving it a market capitalization of $68 million, as reported by Mining.com on January 13, 2025.

This gallium find is particularly significant given the current geopolitical landscape, where gallium is ranked as the number one critical mineral by supply risk by the United States, especially after China's export ban. An analysis by Project Blue highlights that China currently dominates the global supply, providing 98.8% of the world's refined gallium. However, the newfound gallium reserves at Mound Lake indicate that 70% of the samples had values exceeding the average crustal abundance, with the highest gallium value recorded at 110.5 ppm.

Snow Lake aims to leverage this discovery to become a key player in the minerals supply chain critical for powering the global energy transition and technological development. CEO Frank Wheatley commented that the addition of gallium complements the company's resources in lithium and uranium, essential for both AI technologies and clean energy solutions.

Moreover, Snow Lake has secured a binding term sheet with its project partner, Free Battery Metal, to potentially earn up to an 80% interest in the Mound Lake property. This agreement involves Snow Lake serving as the project operator until a pre-feasibility study is completed, with a pathway to form a joint venture thereafter.

In parallel, Snow Lake continues to pursue its other mineral projects, including two hard rock lithium projects in Manitoba and uranium projects in Saskatchewan and Namibia. By the end of 2024, the company had raised $20 million to support these ventures, expecting new resource estimates for its Snow Lake lithium project, projected to contain 8.2 million tonnes grading 1% lithium oxide, and an initial report for the Engo Valley uranium project in Namibia.
