U.S. Soap Import Price per Ton June 2022
In June 2022, the soap price per ton stood at $2,513 (CIF, US) in June 2022, stabilizing at the previous month. Over the period from January 2022 to June 2022, it increased at an average monthly rate of +1.1%. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in May 2022 an increase of 4.5% month-to-month. As a result, import price attained the peak level of $2,513 per ton, leveling off in the following month.
Prices varied noticeably by the country of origin: the country with the highest price was France ($6,622 per ton), while the price for Turkey ($1,164 per ton) was amongst the lowest.
From January 2022 to June 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Canada (+2.5%), while the prices for the other major suppliers experienced more modest paces of growth.
U.S. Soap Import Prices by Type
There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major supplied products. In June 2022, the product with the highest price was organic surface-active products for washing the skin ($2,926 per ton), while the price for soap and organic surface-active products in bars other than for toilet use ($1,939 per ton) was amongst the lowest.
From January 2022 to June 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by skin organic surface-active products (+2.5%), while the prices for the other products experienced more modest paces of growth.
U.S. Soap Imports
In June 2022, purchases abroad of soap decreased by -2.4% to 48K tons, falling for the second month in a row after two months of growth. Overall, imports, however, continue to indicate a relatively flat trend pattern. The growth pace was the most rapid in March 2022 when imports increased by 31% m-o-m. Imports peaked at 52K tons in April 2022; however, from May 2022 to June 2022, imports stood at a somewhat lower figure.
In value terms, soap imports fell modestly to $120M (IndexBox estimates) in June 2022. The total import value increased at an average monthly rate of +1.6% over the period from January 2022 to June 2022; the trend pattern remained relatively stable, with only minor fluctuations being recorded in certain months. The growth pace was the most rapid in March 2022 with an increase of 28% month-to-month. Imports peaked at $124M in April 2022; however, from May 2022 to June 2022, imports stood at a somewhat lower figure.
U.S. Soap Imports by Type
Organic surface-active products for washing the skin (18K tons), soap and organic surface-active products in bars for toilet use (17K tons) and soap and organic surface-active products in bars other than for toilet use (8.7K tons) were the main products of soap imports to the United States, with a combined 93% share of total imports. These products were followed by soap in different forms, which accounted for a further 7.4%.
From January 2022 to June 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of purchases, amongst the major product types, was attained by skin organic surface-active products (with a CAGR of +1.2%), while imports for the other products experienced mixed trend patterns.
In value terms, the most traded types of soap in the United States were organic surface-active products for washing the skin ($54M), soap and organic surface-active products in bars for toilet use ($40M) and soap and organic surface-active products in bars other than for toilet use ($17M), together accounting for 92% of total imports. These products were followed by soap in different forms, which accounted for a further 7.8%.
U.S. Soap Imports by Country
China (11K tons), Canada (11K tons) and Mexico (11K tons) were the main suppliers of soap imports to the United States, together comprising 68% of total imports. These countries were followed by South Korea, Turkey, Colombia, Germany and France, which together accounted for a further 19%.
From January 2022 to June 2022, the biggest increases were in Colombia (with a CAGR of +10.5%), while purchases for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.
In value terms, Canada ($31M), Mexico ($22M) and China ($20M) were the largest soap suppliers to the United States, with a combined 61% share of total imports. These countries were followed by South Korea, France, Colombia, Germany and Turkey, which together accounted for a further 20%.
Colombia, with a CAGR of +10.6%, saw the highest rates of growth with regard to the value of imports, among the main suppliers over the period under review, while purchases for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.
