South Africa Records Remarkable 143% Surge in Raspberry and Blackberry Exports, Worth $3.6M in November 2023.

South Africa Raspberry And Blackberry Exports

In November 2023, shipments abroad of raspberries and blackberries increased by 145% to 265 tons, rising for the fifth consecutive month after five months of decline. Over the period under review, exports, however, continue to indicate a mild setback.

In value terms, raspberry and blackberry exports skyrocketed to $3.6M (IndexBox estimates) in November 2023. In general, exports, however, saw a mild curtailment. Exports by Country

The UK (112 tons), Saudi Arabia (63 tons) and the United Arab Emirates (39 tons) were the main destinations of raspberry and blackberry exports from South Africa, together accounting for 81% of total exports.

From November 2022 to November 2023, the most notable rate of growth in terms of shipments, amongst the main countries of destination, was attained by the UK (with a CAGR of +1.9%), while the other leaders experienced mixed trend patterns.

In value terms, the UK ($1.3M), Saudi Arabia ($979K) and the United Arab Emirates ($671K) appeared to be the largest markets for raspberry and blackberry exported from South Africa worldwide, together comprising 82% of total exports.

Among the main countries of destination, the UK, with a CAGR of +1.5%, recorded the highest growth rate of the value of exports, over the period under review, while shipments for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

Export Prices by Country

In November 2023, the raspberry and blackberry price amounted to $13,471 per ton (FOB, South Africa), remaining relatively unchanged against the previous month. In general, the export price, however, showed a relatively flat trend pattern. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in October 2023 an increase of 25% month-to-month. Over the period under review, the average export prices attained the maximum at $13,588 per ton in January 2023; however, from February 2023 to November 2023, the export prices stood at a somewhat lower figure.

Prices varied noticeably by the country of destination: the country with the highest price was the United Arab Emirates ($17,186 per ton), while the average price for exports to Botswana ($2,887 per ton) was amongst the lowest.

From November 2022 to November 2023, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was recorded for supplies to Singapore (+5.2%), while the prices for the other major destinations experienced more modest paces of growth.
