South Africa Soap In Bars Exports
After two months of growth, shipments abroad of soap and organic surface-active products in bars decreased by -21.4% to 6.1K tons in July 2023. Overall, total exports indicated a slight increase from July 2022 to July 2023: its volume increased at an average monthly rate of +1.9% over the last twelve-month period. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on July 2023 figures, exports decreased by -21.4% against June 2023 indices. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in May 2023 when exports increased by 81% against the previous month.
In value terms, soap in bars exports declined to $12M (IndexBox estimates) in July 2023. Over the period under review, total exports indicated a mild increase from July 2022 to July 2023: its value increased at an average monthly rate of +1.9% over the last twelve-month period. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on July 2023 figures, exports increased by +47.6% against April 2023 indices. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in May 2023 with an increase of 46% month-to-month.

Zambia (1.1K tons), Zimbabwe (1.1K tons) and Botswana (671 tons) were the main destinations of soap in bars exports from South Africa, together comprising 47% of total exports.
