South Africa Sparkling Wine Import Price in February 2023
In February 2023, the sparkling wine price amounted to $15.5 per litre (CIF, South Africa), with a decrease of -38.5% against the previous month. Overall, the import price recorded a deep contraction. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in June 2022 when the average import price increased by 332% month-to-month. As a result, import price attained the peak level of $45,092 per thousand litres. From July 2022 to February 2023, the average import prices remained at a somewhat lower figure.
Prices varied noticeably by the country of origin: the country with the highest price was France ($25.5 per litre), while the price for Italy amounted to $6.5 per litre.
From February 2022 to February 2023, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Italy (+2.1%).

Sparkling wine imports into South Africa dropped sharply to 81K litres in February 2023, reducing by -54.1% on the month before. In general, imports saw a perceptible slump. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in April 2022 when imports increased by 266% month-to-month. Over the period under review, imports hit record highs at 380K litres in October 2022; however, from November 2022 to February 2023, imports failed to regain momentum.
In value terms, sparkling wine imports reduced sharply to $1.3M (IndexBox estimates) in February 2023. Over the period under review, imports continue to indicate a deep setback. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in April 2022 when imports increased by 822% m-o-m. Over the period under review, imports reached the maximum at 7.2M litres in October 2022; however, from November 2022 to February 2023, imports failed to regain momentum.

Italy (43K litres) and France (38K litres) were the main suppliers of sparkling wine imports to South Africa.
