Price of photographic film in Spain increases by 2% to $5.4 per square meter

Spain Photographic Film Import Price in April 2023

In April 2023, the photographic film price amounted to $5.4 per square meter (CIF, Spain), with an increase of 2.4% against the previous month. Over the last twelve months, it increased at an average monthly rate of +1.1%. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in December 2022 an increase of 20% against the previous month. Over the period under review, average import prices attained the peak figure at $5.4 per square meter in July 2022; afterwards, it flattened through to April 2023.

Prices varied noticeably by the country of origin: the country with the highest price was France ($29.5 per square meter), while the price for China ($2.9 per square meter) was amongst the lowest.

From April 2022 to April 2023, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by France (+11.0%), while the prices for the other major suppliers experienced more modest paces of growth.

Spain Photographic Film Import Prices by Type

Prices varied noticeably by the product type; the product with the highest price was photographic plates and film in the flat, sensitised, unexposed, of any material other than paper, paperboard or textiles; instant print film in the flat, sensitised, unexposed, whether or not in packs ($5.8 per square meter), while the price for photographic paper, paperboard and textiles; sensitised, unexposed ($2.6 per square meter) was amongst the lowest.

From April 2022 to April 2023, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by photographic plates and film in the flat, sensitised, unexposed, of any material other than paper, paperboard or textiles; instant print film in the flat, sensitised, unexposed, whether or not in packs (+1.4%), while the prices for the other products experienced mixed trend patterns.

Spain Photographic Film Imports

In April 2023, the amount of photographic plates and film, photographic paper, paperboard and textiles and instant print film, sensitized, unexposed imported into Spain totaled 1.9M square meters, surging by 6.4% against the previous month's figure. Overall, imports, however, recorded a slight curtailment. The growth pace was the most rapid in May 2022 when imports increased by 28% against the previous month. As a result, imports reached the peak of 2.9M square meters. From June 2022 to April 2023, the growth of imports remained at a somewhat lower figure.

In value terms, photographic film imports rose remarkably to $10M (IndexBox estimates) in April 2023. Over the period under review, imports, however, continue to indicate a relatively flat trend pattern. The growth pace was the most rapid in November 2022 with an increase of 17% month-to-month. Imports peaked at 14M square meters in June 2022; however, from July 2022 to April 2023, imports failed to regain momentum.

Spain Photographic Film Imports by Type

In April 2023, photographic plates and film in the flat, sensitised, unexposed, of any material other than paper, paperboard or textiles; instant print film in the flat, sensitised, unexposed, whether or not in packs (1.5M square meters) constituted the largest type of photographic film supplied to Spain, with a 80% share of total imports. Moreover, photographic plates and film in the flat, sensitised, unexposed, of any material other than paper, paperboard or textiles; instant print film in the flat, sensitised, unexposed, whether or not in packs exceeded the figures recorded for the second-largest type, photographic paper, paperboard and textiles; sensitised, unexposed (260K square meters), sixfold.

From April 2022 to April 2023, the average monthly rate of growth in terms of the volume of import of photographic plates and film in the flat, sensitised, unexposed, of any material other than paper, paperboard or textiles; instant print film in the flat, sensitised, unexposed, whether or not in packs amounted to -2.3%. With regard to the other supplied products, the following average monthly rates of growth were recorded: photographic paper, paperboard and textiles; sensitised, unexposed (-0.7% per month) and photographic film in rolls, sensitised, unexposed, of any material other than paper, paperboard or textiles; instant print film in rolls, sensitised, unexposed (+13.4% per month).

In value terms, photographic plates and film in the flat, sensitised, unexposed, of any material other than paper, paperboard or textiles; instant print film in the flat, sensitised, unexposed, whether or not in packs ($8.8M) constituted the largest type of photographic film supplied to Spain, comprising 87% of total imports. The second position in the ranking was held by photographic paper, paperboard and textiles; sensitised, unexposed ($674K), with a 6.7% share of total imports.

Spain Photographic Film Imports by Country

China (592K square meters), Germany (529K square meters) and the Netherlands (513K square meters) were the main suppliers of photographic film imports to Spain, with a combined 87% share of total imports. Belgium, the United States and France lagged somewhat behind, together accounting for a further 12%.

From April 2022 to April 2023, the most notable rate of growth in terms of purchases, amongst the main suppliers, was attained by the United States (with a CAGR of +3.9%), while imports for the other leaders experienced mixed trend patterns.

In value terms, the largest photographic film suppliers to Spain were Germany ($3.9M), the Netherlands ($2.8M) and China ($1.7M), together comprising 83% of total imports. These countries were followed by the United States, Belgium and France, which together accounted for a further 14%.
