Starbucks Workers' Strike Spreads Across More U.S. Cities

Starbucks employees have broadened the scope of their strike to include four additional U.S. cities, one of which is New York. This move comes as the union, representing over 10,000 baristas, steps up its efforts during the holiday season. According to a Reuters report, the strike originally began on Friday in cities like Los Angeles, Chicago, and Seattle, but has now extended to New Jersey, New York, Philadelphia, and St. Louis.

The strike, orchestrated by Workers United, is a response to stalled negotiations with Starbucks over wages, staffing, and scheduling, issues that remain unresolved. The union is now striking in a total of ten cities, which includes Columbus, Denver, and Pittsburgh, creating potential challenges for Starbucks' Christmas sales. Workers United has indicated that this strike, which coincides with a bustling holiday shopping season, might expand to "hundreds of stores" by Tuesday, Christmas Eve.

Starbucks, which operates over 11,000 stores across the United States and employs approximately 200,000 individuals, initiated negotiations with the union in April. Despite completing more than eight bargaining sessions and reaching 30 agreements, talks have hit a critical impasse.
