Stripe Eyes $85 Billion Valuation with Employee Stock Sales

Bloomberg reports that Stripe Inc. is currently negotiating stock sales by employees at a valuation of $85 billion, according to sources familiar with the matter. This strategic move could potentially increase its valuation by $15 billion, restoring some of the capitalization losses suffered during the downturn following the Covid-19 pandemic. Despite this prospective increase, the company's value would still trail its peak valuation of $95 billion observed during the 2021 tech boom.

Stripe, founded by the Collison brothers, has evolved over the last decade into one of Silicon Valley's largest private financial technology firms. The company has consistently piqued the interest of investors anticipating a major initial public offering (IPO), although Stripe has maintained no immediate plans to go public.

Amidst strategic repositioning, the firm laid off 300 employees earlier this year, yet it continues to grow, targeting a workforce of 10,000 by the end of the year, as per data from IndexBox. This is a substantial rise from its headcount of 8,500 at the beginning of the year, signaling planned expansion and resilience against market volatility.
