Sunac China Secures Approval for Onshore Debt Restructure

Developer Sunac China Holdings has achieved a significant milestone by securing approval for the restructuring of its onshore debt, a decision welcomed by market participants as a positive development for China's challenged real estate sector. Restructuring: A Landmark Decision

This agreement marks Sunac as the first defaulted mainland Chinese developer to successfully reduce its onshore debt. By opting for adjustments in repayment terms of principal and interest on ten bonds, and considering options like bond repurchases, cash tender offers, equity payments, and debt settlement with assets, Sunac aims to provide its bondholders with a range of choices for repayment.

The deal signifies potential relief for the liquidity pressures faced by developers due to earlier insolvencies. Raymond Cheng, managing director at CGS International Securities, emphasized the importance of restructuring in alleviating liquidity pressures.
