Swisscom Completes Acquisition of Vodafone Italia

Swisscom, the prominent Swiss telecommunications provider, announced the successful completion of its acquisition of Vodafone Italia, marking a significant move in the European telecom sector. The company made the announcement on Thursday as reported by Reuters, stating that it will now commence integrating Vodafone Italia with its existing Italian enterprise, Fastweb.

This strategic acquisition, valued at 8 billion euros, was finalized on December 31 following the approval by the Italian regulatory authorities earlier in the month. In light of this acquisition, Swisscom anticipates recognizing costs up to 200 million euros in its 2024 financial results, leading to a revision in its full-year earnings forecast. The company now projects its EBITDA for 2024 to be between 4.3 and 4.4 billion Swiss francs, a reduction from the previous guidance of 4.5 to 4.6 billion francs. The forecast for revenue, capital expenditures (CAPEX), and dividends remain unchanged, indicating a stable operational outlook despite the acquisition-related expenditures.

Switzerland's telecom industry, as reflected in data from the IndexBox platform, has been advancing towards consolidation, and this acquisition could further enhance Swisscom's competitive edge in the Italian market. The operations in Italy are expected to benefit from increased synergies and market penetration as Vodafone Italia merges into Fastweb.

Swisscom CEO Christoph Aeschlimann expressed optimism regarding the development, stating, "I am thrilled about the successful closing, as it strengthens Swisscom Group." He emphasized that while this acquisition bolsters their international presence, their strategic focus on the Swiss market remains unchanged, underscoring the dual approach of domestic stability and international expansion.
