Thailand Motorcycle And Scooter Export Price in April 2023
In April 2023, the motorcycle and scooter price amounted to $3,145 per unit (FOB, Thailand), with a decrease of -4.9% against the previous month. In general, the export price showed a slight decrease. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in September 2022 an increase of 28% month-to-month. Over the period under review, the average export prices reached the maximum at $3,619 per unit in June 2022; however, from July 2022 to April 2023, the export prices failed to regain momentum.
Prices varied noticeably by the country of destination: the country with the highest price was Belgium ($11,096 per unit), while the average price for exports to the United Arab Emirates ($302 per unit) was amongst the lowest.
From April 2022 to April 2023, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was recorded for supplies to Vietnam (+4.4%), while the prices for the other major destinations experienced more modest paces of growth.

Prices varied noticeably by the product type; the product with the highest price was motorcycles (including mopeds) and cycles; fitted with auxiliary motor, with reciprocating internal combustion piston engine of a cylinder capacity exceeding 800cc, with or without side-cars; side-cars ($11,017 per unit), while the average price for exports of motorcycles (including mopeds) and cycles; fitted with an auxiliary motor, reciprocating internal combustion piston engine, of cylinder capacity exceeding 50cc but not exceeding 250cc, with or without side-cars; side-cars ($1,041 per unit) was amongst the lowest.
From April 2022 to April 2023, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was recorded for the following types: motorcycles (including mopeds) and cycles; fitted with an auxiliary motor, reciprocating internal combustion piston engine, of cylinder capacity exceeding 50cc but not exceeding 250cc, with or without side-cars; side-cars (+1.8%), while the prices for the other products experienced mixed trend patterns.
Thailand Motorcycle And Scooter Exports
After five months of growth, overseas shipments of motorcycles and scooters decreased by -32% to 68K units in April 2023. In general, exports, however, recorded a mild increase. The growth pace was the most rapid in August 2022 when exports increased by 87% against the previous month. The exports peaked at 99K units in March 2023, and then fell dramatically in the following month.
In value terms, motorcycle and scooter exports contracted rapidly to $213M (IndexBox estimates) in April 2023. Over the period under review, exports recorded a relatively flat trend pattern. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in August 2022 with an increase of 46% m-o-m. The exports peaked at 329M units in March 2023, and then contracted remarkably in the following month.

Moreover, motorcycles (including mopeds) and cycles; fitted with an auxiliary motor, reciprocating internal combustion piston engine, of cylinder capacity exceeding 50cc but not exceeding 250cc, with or without side-cars; side-cars exceeded the volume of the second product type, motorcycles (including mopeds) and cycles; fitted with an auxiliary motor, reciprocating internal combustion piston engine, of cylinder capacity exceeding 250cc but not exceeding 500cc, with or without side-cars; side-cars (12K units), threefold. The third position in this ranking was taken by motorcycles (including mopeds) and cycles; fitted with auxiliary motor, with reciprocating internal combustion piston engine of a cylinder capacity exceeding 800cc, with or without side-cars; side-cars (9.2K units), with a 14% share.
From April 2022 to April 2023, the average monthly rate of growth in terms of the volume of export of motorcycles (including mopeds) and cycles; fitted with an auxiliary motor, reciprocating internal combustion piston engine, of cylinder capacity exceeding 50cc but not exceeding 250cc, with or without side-cars; side-cars stood at +1.0%. With regard to the other exported products, the following average monthly rates of growth were recorded: motorcycles (including mopeds) and cycles; fitted with an auxiliary motor, reciprocating internal combustion piston engine, of cylinder capacity exceeding 250cc but not exceeding 500cc, with or without side-cars; side-cars (+3.6% per month) and motorcycles (including mopeds) and cycles; fitted with auxiliary motor, with reciprocating internal combustion piston engine of a cylinder capacity exceeding 800cc, with or without side-cars; side-cars (-2.7% per month).
In value terms, motorcycles (including mopeds) and cycles; fitted with auxiliary motor, with reciprocating internal combustion piston engine of a cylinder capacity exceeding 800cc, with or without side-cars; side-cars ($101M) remains the largest type of motorcycle and scooter exported from Thailand, comprising 48% of total exports. The second position in the ranking was taken by motorcycles (including mopeds) and cycles; fitted with an auxiliary motor, reciprocating internal combustion piston engine, of cylinder capacity exceeding 250cc but not exceeding 500cc, with or without side-cars; side-cars ($40M), with a 19% share of total exports. It was followed by motorcycles (including mopeds) and cycles; fitted with an auxiliary motor, reciprocating internal combustion piston engine, of cylinder capacity exceeding 50cc but not exceeding 250cc, with or without side-cars; side-cars, with a 19% share.

With regard to the other exported products, the following average monthly rates of growth were recorded: motorcycles (including mopeds) and cycles; fitted with an auxiliary motor, reciprocating internal combustion piston engine, of cylinder capacity exceeding 250cc but not exceeding 500cc, with or without side-cars; side-cars (+3.4% per month) and motorcycles (including mopeds) and cycles; fitted with an auxiliary motor, reciprocating internal combustion piston engine, of cylinder capacity exceeding 50cc but not exceeding 250cc, with or without side-cars; side-cars (+2.8% per month).
Thailand Motorcycle And Scooter Exports by Country
Japan (11K units), Cambodia (7.3K units) and the United States (7.1K units) were the main destinations of motorcycle and scooter exports from Thailand, with a combined 37% share of total exports. These countries were followed by Myanmar, the UK, Vietnam, China, Belgium, Taiwan (Chinese), South Korea, the United Arab Emirates, Iran and the Netherlands, which together accounted for a further 44%.
From April 2022 to April 2023, the most notable rate of growth in terms of shipments, amongst the main countries of destination, was attained by the United Arab Emirates (with a CAGR of +90.8%), while the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.
In value terms, Japan ($34M), Belgium ($30M) and China ($28M) appeared to be the largest markets for motorcycle and scooter exported from Thailand worldwide, with a combined 43% share of total exports. These countries were followed by the UK, the United States, the Netherlands, South Korea, Taiwan (Chinese), Vietnam, Cambodia, Myanmar, Iran and the United Arab Emirates, which together accounted for a further 35%.
The United Arab Emirates, with a CAGR of +57.8%, recorded the highest rates of growth with regard to the value of exports, in terms of the main countries of destination over the period under review, while shipments for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.
