Thailand Synthetic Filament Tow Exports
In January 2024, after two months of decline, there was significant growth in overseas shipments of synthetic filament tow and staple fibers, not carded or combed, when their volume increased by 21% to 44K tons. The total export volume increased at an average monthly rate of +1.4% over the period from January 2023 to January 2024; the trend pattern remained consistent, with only minor fluctuations being observed throughout the analyzed period. The growth pace was the most rapid in March 2023 when exports increased by 27% against the previous month.
In value terms, synthetic filament tow exports soared to $53M (IndexBox estimates) in January 2024. In general, exports, however, saw a relatively flat trend pattern. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in March 2023 when exports increased by 34% month-to-month. As a result, the exports reached the peak of $60M. From April 2023 to January 2024, the growth of the exports failed to regain momentum.

Exports by Country
The United States (7.9K tons), Pakistan (6.2K tons) and Vietnam (5.5K tons) were the main destinations of synthetic filament tow exports from Thailand, with a combined 45% share of total exports.
From January 2023 to January 2024, the biggest increases were in Pakistan (with a CAGR of +13.3%), while shipments for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.
In value terms, the United States ($8.5M), Indonesia ($6.6M) and Pakistan ($6.3M) appeared to be the largest markets for synthetic filament tow exported from Thailand worldwide, together accounting for 41% of total exports.
In terms of the main countries of destination, Pakistan, with a CAGR of +13.1%, recorded the highest growth rate of the value of exports, over the period under review, while shipments for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.
Exports by Type
Synthetic staple fibres, not carded, combed or otherwise processed for spinning (39K tons) was the largest type of synthetic filament tow exported from Thailand, accounting for a 90% share of total exports. Moreover, synthetic staple fibres, not carded, combed or otherwise processed for spinning exceeded the volume of the second product type, synthetic filament tow (4.4K tons), ninefold.
From January 2023 to January 2024, the average monthly growth rate of the volume of export of synthetic staple fibres, not carded, combed or otherwise processed for spinning amounted to +1.3%.
In value terms, synthetic staple fibres, not carded, combed or otherwise processed for spinning ($45M) remains the largest type of synthetic filament tow exported from Thailand, comprising 85% of total exports. The second position in the ranking was taken by synthetic filament tow ($8M), with a 15% share of total exports.
From January 2023 to January 2024, the average monthly rate of growth in terms of the export volume of synthetic staple fibres, not carded, combed or otherwise processed for spinning was relatively modest.
Export Prices by Country
In January 2024, the synthetic filament tow price stood at $1,214 per ton (FOB, Thailand), remaining stable against the previous month. Overall, the export price, however, continues to indicate a mild reduction. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in March 2023 an increase of 6.2% against the previous month. The export price peaked at $1,443 per ton in January 2023; however, from February 2023 to January 2024, the export prices stood at a somewhat lower figure.
Prices varied noticeably by the country of destination: the country with the highest price was Japan ($2,174 per ton), while the average price for exports to Bangladesh ($946 per ton) was amongst the lowest.
From January 2023 to January 2024, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was recorded for supplies to Brazil (+0.6%), while the prices for the other major destinations experienced a decline.
