Thailand's Central Bank Maintains Key Interest Rate Amid Uncertainties

Thailand's central bank has decided to keep its key interest rate unchanged after the surprise cut in October, highlighting concerns over rising uncertainties that could impact the economy. The Monetary Policy Committee unanimously voted to maintain the one-day repurchase rate at 2.25% at Wednesday's meeting, a move anticipated by 21 out of 23 economists surveyed, according to Bloomberg.

The central bank emphasized that this rate is "consistent" with the current economic outlook and the inflation trajectory, which is slowly aligning with the target range of 1%-3%. This decision supports economic and financial stability as the nation braces for "higher uncertainties" in the future. Bank Governor Sethaput Suthiwartnarueput reiterated the significance of a neutral stance, ensuring that the monetary policy remains "robust" against global economic challenges.

Following the rate announcement, the baht sustained a 0.1% loss against the US dollar, and the benchmark index saw minimal changes.
