Trump Administration Halts $5 Billion EV Charging Station Program

In a surprising turn of events, the Federal Highway Administration (FHWA) has decided to suspend its $5 billion program aimed at funding electric vehicle (EV) charging infrastructure across states. According to a letter from Emily Biondi, associate administrator for the Office of Planning, Environment and Realty, this decision comes as part of a broader policy review under President Donald Trump's new administration, less than a month into his second term (source).

The program, known as the National Electric Vehicle Infrastructure (NEVI) program, was originally part of the Infrastructure Investment and Jobs Act signed by then-President Joe Biden in 2021. The program's goal was to establish a robust network of EV charging stations across the country.
