Canned Meat Price in Turkey Rises to $2,050 per Ton

Turkey Canned Meat Export Price in January 2023

In January 2023, the canned meat price stood at $2,050 per ton (FOB, Turkey), with an increase of 2.9% against the previous month. Over the last twelve-month period, it increased at an average monthly rate of +2.7%. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in April 2022 an increase of 17% month-to-month. Over the period under review, the average export prices attained the peak figure at $2,187 per ton in November 2022; however, from December 2022 to January 2023, the export prices stood at a somewhat lower figure.

Prices varied noticeably by the country of destination: the country with the highest price was Ukraine ($9,506 per ton), while the average price for exports to Syrian Arab Republic ($913 per ton) was amongst the lowest.

From January 2022 to January 2023, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was recorded for supplies to Ukraine (+8.9%), while the prices for the other major destinations experienced more modest paces of growth.

Turkey Canned Meat Exports

In January 2023, shipments abroad of canned meat decreased by -18% to 3.7K tons, falling for the fourth consecutive month after two months of growth. In general, exports showed a mild downturn. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in August 2022 with an increase of 78% m-o-m.

In value terms, canned meat exports dropped significantly to $7.7M (IndexBox estimates) in January 2023. Over the period under review, exports, however, saw a relatively flat trend pattern. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in August 2022 when exports increased by 79% against the previous month.

Turkey Canned Meat Exports by Country

Syrian Arab Republic (731 tons), Venezuela (663 tons) and Iraq (502 tons) were the main destinations of canned meat exports from Turkey, together accounting for 51% of total exports. Senegal, Guinea, the United Arab Emirates, Cyprus, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Lebanon, Ukraine, Oman, Morocco and Mauritius lagged somewhat behind, together comprising a further 35%.

From January 2022 to January 2023, the most notable rate of growth in terms of shipments, amongst the main countries of destination, was attained by Ukraine (with a CAGR of +122.2%), while the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

In value terms, the largest markets for canned meat exported from Turkey were Iraq ($1.3M), Senegal ($820K) and Venezuela ($692K), together accounting for 36% of total exports. These countries were followed by Ukraine, Syrian Arab Republic, Cyprus, Guinea, Oman, the United Arab Emirates, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Mauritius, Morocco and Lebanon, which together accounted for a further 44%.

Ukraine, with a CAGR of +142.0%, recorded the highest rates of growth with regard to the value of exports, among the main countries of destination over the period under review, while shipments for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.
