Cement Price in Turkey Hits New Record of $64.8 per Ton

Turkey Cement Export Price per Ton in July 2022

In July 2022, the cement price per ton stood at $64.8 (FOB, Turkey), stabilizing at the previous month. Over the last six months, it increased at an average monthly rate of +3.7%. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in February 2022 when the average export price increased by 8.4% month-to-month. The export price peaked at $65.1 per ton in June 2022, and then shrank slightly in the following month.

Average prices varied noticeably for the major foreign markets. In July 2022, the countries with the highest prices were Haiti ($66.0 per ton) and the United States ($63.0 per ton), while the average price for exports to Bulgaria ($53.0 per ton) and Syrian Arab Republic ($56.0 per ton) were amongst the lowest.

From January 2022 to July 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was recorded for supplies to Sierra Leone (+4.8%), while the prices for the other major destinations experienced more modest paces of growth.

Turkey Cement Export Prices by Type

There were significant differences in the average prices for the major types of exported product. In July 2022, the product with the highest price was aluminous cement ("ciment fondu"), whether or not coloured or in the form of clinkers ($290.7 per ton), while the average price for exports of portland cement, other than white, whether or not artificially coloured ($61.2 per ton) was amongst the lowest.

From January 2022 to July 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was recorded for the following types: portland cement, other than white, whether or not artificially coloured (+3.7%), while the prices for the other products experienced mixed trend patterns.

Turkey Cement Exports

In July 2022, the amount of cement exported from Turkey surged to 2.1M tons, increasing by 21% compared with the month before. The total export volume increased at an average monthly rate of +7.3% over the period from January 2022 to July 2022; however, the trend pattern indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded in certain months. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in February 2022 with an increase of 25% month-to-month. The exports peaked in July 2022.

In value terms, cement exports soared to $134M (IndexBox estimates) in July 2022. In general, total exports indicated a resilient expansion from January 2022 to July 2022: its value increased at an average monthly rate of +11.2% over the last six months. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on July 2022 figures, exports increased by +43.7% against May 2022 indices. The growth pace was the most rapid in February 2022 when exports increased by 36% m-o-m. Over the period under review, the exports attained the peak figure in July 2022.

Turkey Cement Exports by Country

the United States (1.1M tons) was the main destination for cement exports from Turkey, with a 55% share of total exports. Moreover, cement exports to the United States exceeded the volume sent to the second major destination, Israel (280K tons), fourfold. The third position in this ranking was taken by Haiti (108K tons), with a 5.2% share.

From January 2022 to July 2022, the average monthly rate of growth in terms of volume to the United States stood at +9.3%. Exports to the other major destinations recorded the following average monthly rates of exports growth: Israel (+1.8% per month) and Haiti (+0.6% per month).

In value terms, the United States ($71M) remains the key foreign market for cement exports from Turkey, comprising 53% of total exports. The second position in the ranking was held by Israel ($18M), with a 13% share of total exports. It was followed by Haiti, with a 5.4% share.

From January 2022 to July 2022, the average monthly growth rate of value to the United States totaled +14.4%. Exports to the other major destinations recorded the following average monthly rates of exports growth: Israel (+4.3% per month) and Haiti (-0.8% per month).
