Turkey Ceramic Tile Exports
In 2023, shipments abroad of ceramic tiles decreased by -38.5% to 79M square meters, falling for the second consecutive year after six years of growth. Over the period under review, exports continue to indicate a slight decline. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2020 with an increase of 17%. The exports peaked at 154M square meters in 2021; however, from 2022 to 2023, the exports failed to regain momentum.
In value terms, ceramic tile exports plummeted to $683M (IndexBox estimates) in 2023. In general, exports, however, recorded a mild increase. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2021 when exports increased by 25% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the exports reached the maximum at $1.1B in 2022, and then reduced rapidly in the following year.

Exports by Country
the United States (15M square meters), Germany (9.9M square meters) and the UK (6.7M square meters) were the main destinations of ceramic tile exports from Turkey, together comprising 40% of total exports. Israel, France, Syrian Arab Republic, Canada and Iraq lagged somewhat behind, together comprising a further 23%.
From 2013 to 2023, the biggest increases were recorded for Syrian Arab Republic (with a CAGR of +30.5%), while shipments for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.
In value terms, the largest markets for ceramic tile exported from Turkey were the United States ($126M), Germany ($93M) and the UK ($54M), together comprising 40% of total exports. Syrian Arab Republic, France, Israel, Canada and Iraq lagged somewhat behind, together comprising a further 25%.
Syrian Arab Republic, with a CAGR of +40.9%, recorded the highest rates of growth with regard to the value of exports, among the main countries of destination over the period under review, while shipments for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.
Export Prices by Country
In 2023, the ceramic tile price stood at $8.6 per square meter (FOB, Turkey), picking up by 3.5% against the previous year. Over the last decade, it increased at an average annual rate of +2.3%. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2022 an increase of 31%. The export price peaked in 2023 and is expected to retain growth in years to come.
There were significant differences in the average prices for the major external markets. In 2023, amid the top suppliers, the country with the highest price was Syrian Arab Republic ($14 per square meter), while the average price for exports to Georgia ($3.6 per square meter) was amongst the lowest.
From 2013 to 2023, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was recorded for supplies to Syrian Arab Republic (+8.0%), while the prices for the other major destinations experienced more modest paces of growth.
