Turkey Cheese And Curd Exports
In July 2023, the amount of cheese and curd exported from Turkey expanded slightly to 4K tons, growing by 4.6% on the previous month's figure. The total export volume increased at an average monthly rate of +1.9% from July 2022 to July 2023; however, the trend pattern indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in March 2023 when exports increased by 32% month-to-month.
In value terms, cheese and curd exports shrank to $17M (IndexBox estimates) in July 2023. The total export value increased at an average monthly rate of +1.7% over the period from July 2022 to July 2023; however, the trend pattern indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in March 2023 when exports increased by 38% against the previous month.

Exports by Country
Iraq (1.2K tons) was the main destination for cheese and curd exports from Turkey, with a 29% share of total exports. Moreover, cheese and curd exports to Iraq exceeded the volume sent to the second major destination, the United Arab Emirates (538 tons), twofold. The third position in this ranking was held by Kuwait (307 tons), with a 7.7% share.
From July 2022 to July 2023, the average monthly rate of growth in terms of volume to Iraq was relatively modest. Exports to the other major destinations recorded the following average monthly rates of exports growth: the United Arab Emirates (+3.7% per month) and Kuwait (+3.5% per month).
In value terms, Iraq ($5.1M) remains the key foreign market for cheese and curd exports from Turkey, comprising 30% of total exports. The second position in the ranking was held by the United Arab Emirates ($2.1M), with a 13% share of total exports. It was followed by Kuwait, with a 7.1% share.
From July 2022 to July 2023, the average monthly rate of growth in terms of value to Iraq was relatively modest. Exports to the other major destinations recorded the following average monthly rates of exports growth: the United Arab Emirates (+3.7% per month) and Kuwait (+3.3% per month).
Exports by Type
Fresh cheese (unripened or uncured cheese), including whey cheese and curd (1.4K tons), cheese, other than blue-veined, grated, powdered or processed (1.2K tons) and processed cheese (excluding grated or powdered) (863 tons) were the main products of cheese and curd exports from Turkey, with a combined 87% share of total exports.
From July 2022 to July 2023, the biggest increases were in fresh cheese (unripened or uncured cheese), including whey cheese and curd (with a CAGR of +4.1%), while shipments for the other products experienced more modest paces of growth.
In value terms, cheese, other than blue-veined, grated, powdered or processed ($6.5M), fresh cheese (unripened or uncured cheese), including whey cheese and curd ($4.6M) and processed cheese (excluding grated or powdered) ($3.1M) appeared to be the most exported types of cheese and curd from Turkey worldwide, with a combined 84% share of total exports.
Among the main product categories, fresh cheese (unripened or uncured cheese), including whey cheese and curd, with a CAGR of +3.4%, recorded the highest rates of growth with regard to the value of exports, over the period under review, while shipments for the other products experienced more modest paces of growth.
Export Prices by Country
In July 2023, the cheese and curd price stood at $4,249 per ton (FOB, Turkey), with a decrease of -8.4% against the previous month. In general, the export price showed a relatively flat trend pattern. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in November 2022 when the average export price increased by 5.8% against the previous month. Over the period under review, the average export prices reached the maximum at $4,855 per ton in May 2023; however, from June 2023 to July 2023, the export prices failed to regain momentum.
Prices varied noticeably by the country of destination: the country with the highest price was the United States ($6,554 per ton), while the average price for exports to Syrian Arab Republic ($1,270 per ton) was amongst the lowest.
From July 2022 to July 2023, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was recorded for supplies to Israel (+3.3%), while the prices for the other major destinations experienced more modest paces of growth.
