Turkey Contact Lense Prices Increase 64% to $1.2 per Unit

Turkey Contact Lense Import Price in December 2022

In December 2022, the contact lense price stood at $1.2 per unit (CIF, Turkey), increasing by 64% against the previous month. Overall, import price indicated a perceptible expansion from December 2021 to December 2022: its price increased at an average monthly rate of +3.7% over the last twelve months. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on December 2022 figures, contact lense import price increased by +63.8% against November 2022 indices. Over the period under review, average import prices attained the peak figure at $1.3 per unit in February 2022; however, from March 2022 to December 2022, import prices remained at a lower figure.

There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major supplying countries. In December 2022, the country with the highest price was Ireland ($3.0 per unit), while the price for Singapore ($369 per thousand units) was amongst the lowest.

From December 2021 to December 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Germany (+7.6%), while the prices for the other major suppliers experienced more modest paces of growth.

Turkey Contact Lense Imports

In December 2022, imports of contact lenses into Turkey fell to 2.7M units, dropping by -8.9% against the previous month's figure. Over the period under review, imports showed a relatively flat trend pattern. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in November 2022 when imports increased by 85% against the previous month. As a result, imports attained the peak of 2.9M units, and then reduced in the following month.

In value terms, contact lense imports surged to $3.1M (IndexBox estimates) in December 2022. In general, total imports indicated a measured expansion from December 2021 to December 2022: its value increased at an average monthly rate of +3.2% over the last twelve months. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on December 2022 figures, imports increased by +96.6% against October 2022 indices. As a result, imports attained the peak and are likely to continue growth in the immediate term.

Turkey Contact Lense Imports by Country

In December 2022, Malaysia (1.1M units) constituted the largest contact lense supplier to Turkey, accounting for a 42% share of total imports. Moreover, contact lense imports from Malaysia exceeded the figures recorded by the second-largest supplier, the United States (553K units), twofold. The third position in this ranking was taken by Ireland (303K units), with an 11% share.

From December 2021 to December 2022, the average monthly rate of growth in terms of volume from Malaysia stood at +4.8%. The remaining supplying countries recorded the following average monthly rates of imports growth: the United States (-2.6% per month) and Ireland (+2.6% per month).

In value terms, Malaysia ($1M), Ireland ($917K) and the United States ($507K) constituted the largest contact lense suppliers to Turkey, together comprising 79% of total imports.

Among the main suppliers, Ireland, with a CAGR of +9.6%, saw the highest growth rate of the value of imports, over the period under review, while purchases for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.
