Turkey Data Storage Device Imports
In July 2023, after two months of growth, there was significant decline in supplies from abroad of data storage devices, when their volume decreased by -33.9% to 253K units. In general, imports, however, showed a relatively flat trend pattern. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in August 2022 when imports increased by 43% against the previous month. Over the period under review, imports attained the peak figure at 440K units in November 2022; however, from December 2022 to July 2023, imports remained at a lower figure.
In value terms, data storage device imports reduced to $25M (IndexBox estimates) in July 2023. Overall, imports, however, saw a relatively flat trend pattern. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in May 2023 when imports increased by 40% against the previous month. Imports peaked at 44M units in March 2023; however, from April 2023 to July 2023, imports failed to regain momentum.

Imports by Country
In July 2023, China (150K units) constituted the largest data storage device supplier to Turkey, accounting for a 59% share of total imports. Moreover, data storage device imports from China exceeded the figures recorded by the second-largest supplier, Taiwan (Chinese) (42K units), fourfold. The third position in this ranking was held by Thailand (15K units), with a 6% share.
From July 2022 to July 2023, the average monthly rate of growth in terms of volume from China was relatively modest. The remaining supplying countries recorded the following average monthly rates of imports growth: Taiwan (Chinese) (+11.9% per month) and Thailand (-5.9% per month).
In value terms, China ($7.1M) constituted the largest supplier of data storage device to Turkey, comprising 29% of total imports. The second position in the ranking was held by Thailand ($1.7M), with a 7% share of total imports. It was followed by Mexico, with a 5.4% share.
From July 2022 to July 2023, the average monthly growth rate of value from China totaled -2.1%. The remaining supplying countries recorded the following average monthly rates of imports growth: Thailand (-6.0% per month) and Mexico (+2.8% per month).
Import Prices by Country
In July 2023, the data storage device price amounted to $97.9 per unit (CIF, Turkey), jumping by 39% against the previous month. In general, the import price, however, saw a relatively flat trend pattern. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in December 2022 an increase of 47% m-o-m. The import price peaked at $117 per unit in March 2023; however, from April 2023 to July 2023, import prices failed to regain momentum.
Prices varied noticeably by the country of origin: the country with the highest price was Vietnam ($400 per unit), while the price for Taiwan (Chinese) ($29.8 per unit) was amongst the lowest.
From July 2022 to July 2023, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Mexico (+13.3%), while the prices for the other major suppliers experienced more modest paces of growth.
