Average Price of Expansible Polystyrene in Turkey Decreases by 3% to $1,406 per Ton

Turkey Expansible Polystyrene Export Price in July 2023

In July 2023, the expansible polystyrene price stood at $1,406 per ton (FOB, Turkey), waning by -3.3% against the previous month. Over the period under review, the export price saw a noticeable contraction. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in January 2023 when the average export price increased by 3.2% against the previous month. The export price peaked at $2,584 per ton in July 2022; however, from August 2022 to July 2023, the export prices failed to regain momentum.

Average prices varied noticeably for the major export markets. In July 2023, the highest price was recorded for prices to Italy ($1,454 per ton) and the Netherlands ($1,409 per ton), while the average price for exports to Israel ($1,287 per ton) and Hungary ($1,331 per ton) were amongst the lowest.

From July 2022 to July 2023, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was recorded for supplies to the Netherlands (-4.1%), while the prices for the other major destinations experienced a decline.

Turkey Expansible Polystyrene Exports

In July 2023, shipments abroad of expansible polystyrene in primary forms increased by 5% to 11K tons, rising for the second consecutive month after two months of decline. Overall, exports continue to indicate a relatively flat trend pattern. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in March 2023 when exports increased by 17% against the previous month.

In value terms, expansible polystyrene exports rose slightly to $16M (IndexBox estimates) in July 2023. Over the period under review, exports, however, recorded a noticeable setback. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in February 2023 with an increase of 14% against the previous month.

Turkey Expansible Polystyrene Exports by Country

Italy (1.6K tons), Romania (1.6K tons) and Ukraine (1.3K tons) were the main destinations of expansible polystyrene exports from Turkey, with a combined 40% share of total exports. Belgium, Israel, Egypt, Hungary, Serbia, Morocco, the UK, Austria, Russia and Croatia lagged somewhat behind, together comprising a further 40%.

From July 2022 to July 2023, the biggest increases were in Belgium (with a CAGR of +17.9%), while shipments for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

In value terms, Italy ($2.4M), Romania ($2.2M) and Ukraine ($1.7M) were the largest markets for expansible polystyrene exported from Turkey worldwide, with a combined 39% share of total exports. Belgium, Egypt, Israel, Hungary, the UK, Serbia, Morocco, Austria, Russia and Croatia lagged somewhat behind, together comprising a further 41%.

Among the main countries of destination, Belgium, with a CAGR of +10.9%, recorded the highest growth rate of the value of exports, over the period under review, while shipments for the other leaders experienced mixed trend patterns.
