Turkey's Glass Fiber Price Slumps to $5,752 per Ton, Fluctuating Wildly over 2022

Turkey Glass Fiber Import Price in September 2022

In September 2022, the glass fiber price stood at $5,752 per ton (CIF, Turkey), with a decrease of -18.1% against the previous month. In general, the import price, however, continues to indicate a relatively flat trend pattern. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in March 2022 when the average import price increased by 71% m-o-m. As a result, import price attained the peak level of $10,965 per ton. From April 2022 to September 2022, the average import prices remained at a somewhat lower figure.

Prices varied noticeably by the country of origin: the country with the highest price was France ($16,111 per ton), while the price for Russia ($2,904 per ton) was amongst the lowest.

From January 2022 to September 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by France (+8.8%), while the prices for the other major suppliers experienced more modest paces of growth.

Turkey Glass Fiber Imports

In September 2022, approximately 665 tons of voiles, webs, mats and other articles of glass fibers were imported into Turkey; picking up by 21% on the previous month's figure. Over the period under review, total imports indicated a pronounced increase from January 2022 to September 2022: its volume increased at an average monthly rate of +2.5% over the last eight months. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on September 2022 figures, imports increased by +77.3% against May 2022 indices. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in August 2022 when imports increased by 36% against the previous month. Imports peaked in September 2022.

In value terms, glass fiber imports dropped to $3.8M (IndexBox estimates) in September 2022. In general, total imports indicated a notable increase from January 2022 to September 2022: its value increased at an average monthly rate of +2.8% over the last eight months. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on September 2022 figures, imports increased by +52.7% against July 2022 indices. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in March 2022 when imports increased by 95% m-o-m. As a result, imports reached the peak of $5.3M. From April 2022 to September 2022, the growth of imports remained at a lower figure.

Turkey Glass Fiber Imports by Country

Russia (205 tons), Germany (175 tons) and China (136 tons) were the main suppliers of glass fiber imports to Turkey, with a combined 78% share of total imports. These countries were followed by Norway, India, Italy and France, which together accounted for a further 19%.

From January 2022 to September 2022, the biggest increases were in Norway (with a CAGR of +428.3%), while purchases for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

In value terms, the largest glass fiber suppliers to Turkey were China ($688K), Russia ($595K) and Germany ($543K), together accounting for 48% of total imports. Norway, France, Italy and India lagged somewhat behind, together accounting for a further 25%.

Norway, with a CAGR of +356.0%, recorded the highest rates of growth with regard to the value of imports, in terms of the main suppliers over the period under review, while purchases for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.
