Average Price of Granite Blocks in Turkey Surges 14%, Reaching $133/Ton

Turkey Granite Block Export Price in July 2023

In July 2023, the granite block price amounted to $133 per ton (FOB, Turkey), growing by 14% against the previous month. In general, the export price, however, showed a mild shrinkage. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in March 2023 when the average export price increased by 52% month-to-month. The export price peaked at $168 per ton in September 2022; however, from October 2022 to July 2023, the export prices remained at a lower figure.

Prices varied noticeably by the country of destination: the country with the highest price was Switzerland ($179 per ton), while the average price for exports to Bulgaria ($47.0 per ton) was amongst the lowest.

From July 2022 to July 2023, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was recorded for supplies to Switzerland (+3.7%), while the prices for the other major destinations experienced a decline.

Turkey Granite Block Exports

In July 2023, the amount of granite blocks and slabs exported from Turkey reached 7.5K tons, with an increase of 6.2% compared with the previous month's figure. Overall, exports, however, recorded a pronounced contraction. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in February 2023 when exports increased by 185% month-to-month.

In value terms, granite block exports skyrocketed to $995K (IndexBox estimates) in July 2023. In general, exports, however, saw a pronounced slump. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in February 2023 when exports increased by 98% m-o-m.

Turkey Granite Block Exports by Country

Germany (5.2K tons) was the main destination for granite block exports from Turkey, accounting for a 70% share of total exports. Moreover, granite block exports to Germany exceeded the volume sent to the second major destination, Switzerland (1.1K tons), fivefold. The third position in this ranking was taken by Italy (588 tons), with a 7.9% share.

From July 2022 to July 2023, the average monthly rate of growth in terms of volume to Germany stood at -4.2%. Exports to the other major destinations recorded the following average monthly rates of exports growth: Switzerland (-1.7% per month) and Italy (+0.9% per month).

In value terms, Germany ($654K) remains the key foreign market for granite block exports from Turkey, comprising 66% of total exports. The second position in the ranking was held by Switzerland ($194K), with a 20% share of total exports. It was followed by Italy, with a 7.1% share.

From July 2022 to July 2023, the average monthly growth rate of value to Germany stood at -6.3%. Exports to the other major destinations recorded the following average monthly rates of exports growth: Switzerland (+1.9% per month) and Italy (-2.4% per month).
