Internal Combustion Engines Price in Turkey Rises Markedly to $4,038 per Unit

Turkey Internal Combustion Engines Import Price in January 2023

In January 2023, the internal combustion engines price stood at $4,038 per unit (CIF, Turkey), surging by 9.6% against the previous month. Over the period under review, the import price, however, continues to indicate a relatively flat trend pattern. Over the period under review, average import prices hit record highs at $4,267 per unit in January 2022; however, from February 2022 to January 2023, import prices remained at a lower figure.

There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major supplying countries. In January 2023, the country with the highest price was Germany ($15,026 per unit), while the price for India ($2,014 per unit) was amongst the lowest.

From January 2022 to January 2023, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Italy (+2.1%), while the prices for the other major suppliers experienced more modest paces of growth.

Turkey Internal Combustion Engines Imports

In January 2023, internal combustion engines imports into Turkey contracted markedly to 40K units, waning by -22.5% compared with December 2022. In general, imports recorded a relatively flat trend pattern. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in September 2022 when imports increased by 47% m-o-m. As a result, imports reached the peak of 60K units. From October 2022 to January 2023, the growth of imports remained at a lower figure.

In value terms, internal combustion engines imports shrank dramatically to $160M (IndexBox estimates) in January 2023. Over the period under review, imports saw a relatively flat trend pattern. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in September 2022 with an increase of 35% m-o-m. Imports peaked at 203M units in March 2022; however, from April 2022 to January 2023, imports remained at a lower figure.

Turkey Internal Combustion Engines Imports by Country

In January 2023, the UK (22K units) constituted the largest internal combustion engines supplier to Turkey, accounting for a 54% share of total imports. Moreover, internal combustion engines imports from the UK exceeded the figures recorded by the second-largest supplier, Italy (4.3K units), fivefold. The third position in this ranking was taken by Spain (3.9K units), with a 9.8% share.

From January 2022 to January 2023, the average monthly growth rate of volume from the UK stood at +1.8%. The remaining supplying countries recorded the following average monthly rates of imports growth: Italy (-5.1% per month) and Spain (-1.6% per month).

In value terms, the UK ($69M), Germany ($43M) and Italy ($16M) were the largest internal combustion engines suppliers to Turkey, with a combined 80% share of total imports. Spain, Poland, India and South Africa lagged somewhat behind, together accounting for a further 16%.

South Africa, with a CAGR of +62.3%, recorded the highest growth rate of the value of imports, in terms of the main suppliers over the period under review, while purchases for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.
