Decline in Turkish Metal Office Furniture Exports Records Modest $10M in October 2023

Turkey Metal Office Furniture Exports

In October 2023, shipments abroad of metal office furniture decreased by -2.1% to 3.7K tons for the first time since June 2023, thus ending a three-month rising trend. The total export volume increased at an average monthly rate of +2.2% from October 2022 to October 2023; however, the trend pattern indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. The growth pace was the most rapid in May 2023 with an increase of 26% m-o-m. As a result, the exports attained the peak of 3.9K tons. From June 2023 to October 2023, the growth of the exports remained at a somewhat lower figure.

In value terms, metal office furniture exports declined slightly to $10M (IndexBox estimates) in October 2023. The total export value increased at an average monthly rate of +2.1% over the period from October 2022 to October 2023; however, the trend pattern remained consistent, with only minor fluctuations throughout the analyzed period. Exports by Country

Germany (1.2K tons) was the main destination for metal office furniture exports from Turkey, accounting for a 33% share of total exports. Moreover, metal office furniture exports to Germany exceeded the volume sent to the second major destination, the Netherlands (510 tons), twofold. France (476 tons) ranked third in terms of total exports with a 13% share.

From October 2022 to October 2023, the average monthly rate of growth in terms of volume to Germany stood at +3.7%. Exports to the other major destinations recorded the following average monthly rates of exports growth: the Netherlands (+0.9% per month) and France (+0.4% per month).

In value terms, Germany ($3.1M) remains the key foreign market for metal office furniture exports from Turkey, comprising 30% of total exports. The second position in the ranking was taken by the Netherlands ($1.3M), with a 13% share of total exports. It was followed by France, with a 12% share.

From October 2022 to October 2023, the average monthly growth rate of value to Germany amounted to +3.8%. Exports to the other major destinations recorded the following average monthly rates of exports growth: the Netherlands (+1.1% per month) and France (+0.4% per month).

Export Prices by Country

In October 2023, the metal office furniture price amounted to $2,795 per ton (FOB, Turkey), shrinking by -2.8% against the previous month. In general, the export price continues to indicate a relatively flat trend pattern. The growth pace was the most rapid in January 2023 when the average export price increased by 6.7% against the previous month. The export price peaked at $2,875 per ton in September 2023, and then reduced slightly in the following month.

There were significant differences in the average prices for the major foreign markets. In October 2023, the country with the highest price was the United States ($3,442 per ton), while the average price for exports to Libya ($1,984 per ton) was amongst the lowest.

From October 2022 to October 2023, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was recorded for supplies to Iraq (+4.7%), while the prices for the other major destinations experienced more modest paces of growth.
