Turkey's Polyvinyl Chloride Price Drops 6% to $958 per Ton

Turkey Polyvinyl Chloride Import Price in January 2023

In January 2023, the polyvinyl chloride price amounted to $958 per ton (CIF, Turkey), with a decrease of -6% against the previous month. Over the period under review, the import price recorded a abrupt curtailment. As a result, import price reached the peak level of $2,152 per ton. From February 2022 to January 2023, the average import prices remained at a lower figure.

Average prices varied somewhat amongst the major supplying countries. In January 2023, the highest price was recorded for prices from China ($1,169 per ton) and Germany ($1,135 per ton), while the price for Russia ($824 per ton) and the United States ($842 per ton) were amongst the lowest.

From January 2022 to January 2023, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Ukraine (+4.7%), while the prices for the other major suppliers experienced a decline.

Turkey Polyvinyl Chloride Imports

In January 2023, approximately 95K tons of polyvinyl chloride were imported into Turkey; jumping by 18% against the previous month. The total import volume increased at an average monthly rate of +3.1% over the period from January 2022 to January 2023; however, the trend pattern indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in August 2022 when imports increased by 40% m-o-m. Imports peaked in January 2023.

In value terms, polyvinyl chloride imports reached $91M (IndexBox estimates) in January 2023. Overall, imports, however, continue to indicate a pronounced slump. The growth pace was the most rapid in May 2022 with an increase of 25% against the previous month.

Turkey Polyvinyl Chloride Imports by Country

Egypt (19K tons), the United States (17K tons) and France (11K tons) were the main suppliers of polyvinyl chloride imports to Turkey, together comprising 49% of total imports.

From January 2022 to January 2023, the biggest increases were in Egypt (with a CAGR of +13.8%), while purchases for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

In value terms, the largest polyvinyl chloride suppliers to Turkey were Egypt ($16M), the United States ($14M) and France ($11M), with a combined 45% share of total imports.

In terms of the main suppliers, Egypt, with a CAGR of +5.5%, recorded the highest rates of growth with regard to the value of imports, over the period under review, while purchases for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.
