Turkey Prepared Culture Media Import Price in March 2023
In March 2023, the prepared culture media price amounted to $29,593 per ton (CIF, Turkey), with an increase of 9.4% against the previous month. In general, the import price posted a tangible increase. The growth pace was the most rapid in October 2022 an increase of 70% against the previous month. Over the period under review, average import prices reached the peak figure at $38,291 per ton in November 2022; however, from December 2022 to March 2023, import prices remained at a lower figure.
There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major supplying countries. In March 2023, the country with the highest price was the UK ($65,229 per ton), while the price for Germany ($15,651 per ton) was amongst the lowest.
From March 2022 to March 2023, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Spain (+10.5%), while the prices for the other major suppliers experienced more modest paces of growth.

Turkey Prepared Culture Media Imports
Prepared culture media imports into Turkey declined rapidly to 74 tons in March 2023, reducing by -17.5% against the previous month. In general, imports saw a relatively flat trend pattern. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in December 2022 when imports increased by 109% m-o-m. As a result, imports attained the peak of 139 tons. From January 2023 to March 2023, the growth of imports failed to regain momentum.
In value terms, prepared culture media imports reduced to $2.2M (IndexBox estimates) in March 2023. Over the period under review, total imports indicated a moderate increase from March 2022 to March 2023: its value increased at an average monthly rate of +2.6% over the last twelve months. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on March 2023 figures, imports increased by +20.7% against January 2023 indices. The growth pace was the most rapid in April 2022 when imports increased by 58% m-o-m.
Turkey Prepared Culture Media Imports by Country
France (25 tons), Germany (23 tons) and the United States (9.9 tons) were the main suppliers of prepared culture media imports to Turkey, with a combined 79% share of total imports. Spain, the UK and Italy lagged somewhat behind, together accounting for a further 15%.
From March 2022 to March 2023, the most notable rate of growth in terms of purchases, amongst the main suppliers, was attained by Italy (with a CAGR of +10.6%), while imports for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.
In value terms, the United States ($441K), France ($412K) and Germany ($357K) constituted the largest prepared culture media suppliers to Turkey, together comprising 55% of total imports. the UK, Spain and Italy lagged somewhat behind, together accounting for a further 21%.
