Turkey Preserved Tomato Exports
In September 2023, shipments abroad of preserved tomatoes was finally on the rise to reach 1.3K tons after two months of decline. Overall, exports continue to indicate a slight increase. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in October 2022 with an increase of 137% against the previous month.
In value terms, preserved tomato exports dropped significantly to $3.2M (IndexBox estimates) in September 2023. Over the period under review, exports continue to indicate a modest expansion. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in October 2022 with an increase of 69% against the previous month.

Exports by Country
Germany (144 tons), Russia (127 tons) and Italy (123 tons) were the main destinations of preserved tomato exports from Turkey, together accounting for 31% of total exports.
From September 2022 to September 2023, the biggest increases were in Germany (with a CAGR of +4.8%), while shipments for the other leaders experienced mixed trend patterns.
In value terms, the largest markets for preserved tomato exported from Turkey were Germany ($490K), Italy ($459K) and the Netherlands ($286K), together accounting for 39% of total exports.
Among the main countries of destination, Germany, with a CAGR of +7.2%, recorded the highest rates of growth with regard to the value of exports, over the period under review, while shipments for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.
Export Prices by Country
In September 2023, the preserved tomato price stood at $2,541 per ton (FOB, Turkey), dropping by -26.7% against the previous month. Overall, the export price continues to indicate a relatively flat trend pattern. The growth pace was the most rapid in July 2023 when the average export price increased by 70% m-o-m. Over the period under review, the average export prices hit record highs at $3,468 per ton in August 2023, and then declined rapidly in the following month.
Prices varied noticeably by the country of destination: the country with the highest price was the UK ($4,285 per ton), while the average price for exports to Oman ($537 per ton) was amongst the lowest.
From September 2022 to September 2023, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was recorded for supplies to the Netherlands (+2.7%), while the prices for the other major destinations experienced more modest paces of growth.
