Turkey Shelled Hazelnut Exports
In November 2023, overseas shipments of shelled hazelnuts decreased by -7.1% to 15K tons for the first time since August 2023, thus ending a two-month rising trend. Over the period under review, exports saw a noticeable decline. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in September 2023 when exports increased by 139% against the previous month.
In value terms, shelled hazelnut exports fell modestly to $111M (IndexBox estimates) in November 2023. Overall, exports saw a perceptible curtailment. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in September 2023 when exports increased by 163% m-o-m.

Exports by Country
Germany (4.3K tons), Italy (4.1K tons) and France (1K tons) were the main destinations of shelled hazelnut exports from Turkey, with a combined 61% share of total exports. These countries were followed by Switzerland, Poland, Brazil and Spain, which together accounted for a further 13%.
From November 2022 to November 2023, the biggest increases were in Switzerland (with a CAGR of +0.3%), while shipments for the other leaders experienced a decline.
In value terms, the largest markets for shelled hazelnut exported from Turkey were Germany ($32M), Italy ($30M) and France ($7.5M), together accounting for 62% of total exports. These countries were followed by Switzerland, Poland, Brazil and Spain, which together accounted for a further 13%.
In terms of the main countries of destination, Switzerland, with a CAGR of +1.9%, saw the highest rates of growth with regard to the value of exports, over the period under review, while shipments for the other leaders experienced mixed trend patterns.
Export Prices by Country
In November 2023, the shelled hazelnut price stood at $7,222 per ton (FOB, Turkey), rising by 5.5% against the previous month. Over the last twelve-month period, it increased at an average monthly rate of +2.0%. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in October 2023 an increase of 13% m-o-m. Over the period under review, the average export prices attained the peak figure in November 2023.
Average prices varied noticeably for the major export markets. In November 2023, the countries with the highest prices were Germany ($7,440 per ton) and Algeria ($7,407 per ton), while the average price for exports to Switzerland ($6,606 per ton) and Belgium ($6,686 per ton) were amongst the lowest.
From November 2022 to November 2023, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was recorded for supplies to Germany (+2.8%), while the prices for the other major destinations experienced more modest paces of growth.
